Games - Everything Is Working

After all of this time Sonic CD is still one of my favorite Sonic games, and that's partly because of it's amazing soundtrack! The music of Sonic CD is a joy to work with and my first remixes were tracks from this game. This is probably one of my earliest efforts that I've touched up here and there. I still enjoy it, hopefully you will too!

Stardust Speedway (Past) - Chiptune Remix

There is a lot going on in this track. It was a tough remix to do since I usually don't explore upper ranges and getting a lead that high to sound nice is something I don't have to do very often. It's good to give it a shot though, and this is one of my favorites from Sonic CD.

Quartz Quadrant (Good Future) - Chiptune Remix

I've been sleeping at weird hours lately so I started working on this a few days ago in the early morning. Unleashed has always had one of my favorite modern Sonic soundtracks and this theme is part of that. Such an upbeat and energizing song with a really raw sound, nice to get away from my heavier original stuff.

I might redo this at some point because I'm not completely satisfied with the vocal lead in certain parts, but I'll need to do some experimenting with effects first.

Endless Possibilities - Chiptune Remix

This is a track that I've been messing with for probably around 2 years now. Waaaaaaay back in 2014 this was one of the first songs that I ever tried to remix and learn famitracker with. It was my first track that got any kind of attention on tumblr and it got me to keep experimenting more with chiptunes.

Today I think it's ready to share. At some point I need to or else I'll be trying to get it to sound perfect for another 2 years! I'm really happy with how it's evolved after all of this time.

mono no aware (もののあわれ) is the first compilation to be released on PAN, collating unreleased ambient tracks from both new and existing PAN artists.

Featuring Jeff Witscher, Helm, TCF, Yves Tumor, M.E.S.H., Pan Daijing, HVAD, Kareem Lotfy, ADR, Mya Gomez, Sky H1, James K, Oli XL, Bill Kouligas, Flora Yin-Wong, Malibu, and AYYA, the compilation moves through more traditional notions of what is called ’ambient’, to incorporating wider variations that fall under the term.

“Mono no aware”, ‘the pathos of things’, also translates as “an empathy toward things", or "a sensitivity to ephemera”. A term for the awareness of impermanence, or the transience of things. A meditation on mortality and life's transience, ephemerality heightens the appreciation of beauty and sensitivity to their passing. In investigating the passing of time, the boundaries between memory and hallucination become blurred; between fiction and reality. The movement of time transforms into an eternal present.

The album is mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M, featuring photography by Molly Matalon and design by Bill Kouligas. A limited version of 100 copies will be released as a special art edition in collaboration with Mount Analog for the LA Art Book Fair 2017, before going on general release.

14 years ago today, Cave Story, one of the most influential indie games of all time, was released. In celebration, I've put together this collaborative remix of one of my favorite songs from the game.

Following the successful reissue of 'Myam James Part I' in 2018, Lapsus Records once again turns to cult producer Kettel aka Reimer Eising to offer the second instalment of his stunning work that in 2019, also marks ten years since its original release date on Dutch label Sending Orbs. 

'Myam James 2' was the much anticipated continuation of a work that revolutionized the IDM scene and ten years on it sounds as fresh and current as ever. Although it was created as a conceptual extension to its prequel, on this occasion the album’s acid lines seem to develop in a way that allows space for melodic ambient passages and more intimate compositions, revealing Eising’s classical training and incorporating instruments including the cello and acoustic piano. The 'Mayam James 2' blueprint is extraordinary, with energetic braindance and electro tracks interlaced with sonic interludes, often reminiscent of French minimalism and impressionism –'Shinjuku Inn', 'Sauce' and 'Song From 4pm Herring' are good examples of this-. 

This year Lapsus Records will celebrate the tenth anniversary of this audio treasure with a special collectors edition double vinyl pressing, re-mastered by Xavier Alarcón and accompanied by a lithographic print from the original artwork by illustrator Jeroen Advocaat. This deluxe reissue will also contain two unreleased tracks produced at the time of the album’s original release: 'Boltklap' and 'Lisenlily'.
