Schrödinger’s Box Radio is back with another wild show of electronic anomalies, this time with guest mix by IFM legend - Selene!

The assignment: Record a mix with tracks that you’d listen to 100 times.

The result: A mix of machine-age techno and electro to listen to while wandering through the post-apocalyptic streets of Earth.

Selene has been transmitting techno, ambient and electro beats on the airwaves of intergalactic.fm since 2012 — first as the host of The Teahouse on IFM’s beloved ambient channel The Garden, and then on The Dream Machine as the host of Special Circumstances. She’s made multiple appearances at the IFM Festival in the Hague.

Originally schooled in acid house at full moon raves by the Wicked Soundsystem in the San Francisco Bay Area, she moved to New York where she developed her love of techno thanks to events like the legendary New Music Seminar. Any additional free time was spent digging through crates at Temple Records in Soho and throughout various sidewalk sales and flea markets in the city. In addition to IFM, she’s also had the honor of recording guest mixes for Berlin’s Vortex Traks, Chester’s Victrix, Dresden’s Per Musica Ad Astra, the Real Techno mix series and KEXP in Seattle.

Favorite sonic experiences: Plastikman at the Packard Plant, I-f at IFM Fest, Tee Scott at Sound Factory Bar, Robert Hood at Movement, Jeff Mills at Twilo, Jenö at Bonny Doon and Kraftwerk at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

Violet Poison is the proto-EBM/Industrial side-project of Italian producer and dj, Francesco Baudazzi, previously known as Obtane, the techno project he shut down in 2012. 

Violet Poison is inspired by oldschool EBM and synth/wave music from the 80's. Baudazzi also runs different projects under various aliases, some focused on 80's thriller/horror soundtracks and some on US-oriented Italo-disco/freestyle. Baudazzi also is the label head for Veleno Viola that is also a podcast mix series

Last month, WOEIFM invited me to play for their monthly show on @operator.radio. I took the opportunity to create a New Beat special because, as a New Beat lover, I've always wanted to do that! 

Belgian New Beat, often just called New Beat, was an underground subculture and music scene that thrived in Belgium during the 1980s and 1990s. It was especially prominent in Antwerp and Brussels, and eventually gained widespread popularity across Western Europe.


I also added some interview snippets from back in the day.

Aggelos Baltas is a veteran of the global electronic music scene, responsible for a handful of celebrated EBM 12”s as Dream Weapons, and a particularly heady and open-ended brand of krautrock as Fantastikoi Hxoi. His project, Anatolian Weapons, was conceived as a way to bring together these two seemingly mismatched concepts, with the polyrhythmic percussion and wailing tones of Greek folk music serving as their unlikely bonding agent.

With distinguished releases on Beats In Space, Subject To Restrictions Discs, Byrd Out, Qreclaim, Sound Metaphors, Invisible Inc, Emotional Response, to name a few, Aggelos earned widespread acclaim both locally and internationally for his daring fusion of diverse musical styles and influences.

This led him to hold the position of resident DJ at the pivotal venue Astron in his hometown and to play around Europe, where his eclectic sets leave a lasting impression.
