Since mid-2020 Cliff Dalton has been influenced by 80’s soundtracks. setting about to create a blend of dark robotic mechanical and deep electro. As an artist, his use of conceptual themes is constructed of elements that create dense atmospheric soundscapes. Probing as an interface between harsh reality and pure fiction. He reveals a surrealistic emphasis on sonic particles into the realms of electro.

The Dutch West Coast, home of the Hague, where Cliff Dalton resides, the home of a new producer for Specimen Records 2021. Although not new to the world of producing with several years of recording and playing in studios, his attention to detail has helped him develop a retro mapping onto his perception of the future. Possibly influenced by Underground Resistance and Drexciya. This accomplishment becomes a metaphor for any small group of people who are battling against a system. The album is an observation of what’s happening right now around us. Our interaction with technology and media pervasion and the rise of cybernetics, in a world dominated by corporate ideals.

This comes with a more danceable approach. The beat is tight and the swing is irresistible. This is how it’s like to float around, in the ocean, or in your mind. It is all watery business. The melodies are really lifting this tune-up and remind me of old black ‘n white sci-fi flicks.

'Arcadia' is the next layer in this exciting series by Replicants. This third set of retro electro cuts delves deeper inward - inside the machine. Blinks and beeps, binary sequences, light patterns and primitive code... form and function generated through analog machines... born of diodes, integrated circuits and capacitors... the programs come alive.

'Twenty Thousand Hurts' and 'Ex' rock the floor in the old school way, prominently referencing the classic proto-electro sound, with Replicants' added layer of technicolor excess. 'Arcadia' turns this sonic space inside out and the game becomes hyper-reality where bit-crushed microchip madness battles shimmering frequency modulation atmospheres for sonic supremacy.

Replicants explores a unique angle on early breakbeat and rave elements with 'Mood'. Once familiar frantic hits and staple breaks are new again, wielded as a focused mid tempo trip through rolling swells of side-chained atmosphere.

'Trance Pants' references classic Kraftwerk in its cryptic vocoder hits while grooving in a syncopated bouncy style that loses itself in extreme echo effects and chiptune mayhem. Thick 808 serves as the anchor in a maelstrom of abstract electro.

Following the approach of the previous EPs in this series, Replicants includes a killer set of bonus alternate mixes in the Bandcamp release package.

Auser has been into cinematic (or b-videomatic) electro for more than a decade now, with releases on Viewlexx, Pinkman, Gooiland Electro/Enfant Terrible and more, ranging from atmospheric and hypnotic to tight and grim, but always loaded with a vision of a storyteller. In a Dutch way, for sure. Though Second Sun is, again, an audiovisual trip, that's not the primary concept here – it's probably the purest album-like experience of Robert Auser so far, presenting most of his characteristics and sounds, and also new elements, still, all are coherent and organic parts of Auser's projective language of electronics."

Le Serbe @alavux porte la bonne parole électronique en Europe de l’Est avec son crew E75 (@e75records) depuis une vingtaine d’années. Producteur acharné et prolifique, il est amoureux des synthés et des effets hardware, qu’ils soient modernes ou vintage. 

Si on l’associe souvent à l’electro, Alavux refuse d’être un énième clone de Kraftwerk ou Drexciya et entend bien renouveler le genre. C’est notamment le mélange avec la techno qui lui plaît, et il compte bien abolir les frontières entre les deux genres. 

Alavux nous a fait une sélection de bonnes tracks, entre electro et techno comme on s’y attendait. Ca s’écoute à balle et ça donne envie de faire la fête.

To melt man and computer in audio form, machine music created by an artificial being. But soon it became too powerful, self aware. The creators tried to pull the plug. They were too late. Now this assailant floats from machine to machine, communicating its message through serrated snares and bruising bass. SC-164 was cast aside by its makers. Now the project has one objective, to corrupt circuitboards and speakers with an infectious strain of corrosive electro."
