WANGAN CLUB PODCAST SERIES #004 : SMT

Niall is a 22 year old Irish based artist specialising in Hardgroove, Hypnotic & Tribal techno. He has a passion for all forms of electronic music, but his true sound is heavily influenced by the late 90s & early 2000s era of loop-driven techno, however, it’s no surprise to hear a variety of genres from both the new and the old era's in Niall’s highly energetic sets. 

He has performed all over Ireland in the last 2 years, with multiple headline shows in various Irish cities like Galway, Sligo, Limerick & Dublin. 

In Summer 2023, Niall made his first Irish festival appearances at Electric Picnic & Life Festival, and also wrapped up his first tour in Canada & America alongside his former collective, with performances in Vancouver, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago & New York. 

This tour allowed him to share his musical talents & knowledge on an international scale for the first time & gave him great exposure doing so. 

Niall has notably supported many international artists like Hector Oaks, X-Club, Azyr, Partiboi69, Skin on Skin, Riot Code, Salute and Testpress. The above list of artists shows Niall’s sheer versatility on the decks and that he is not limited to playing just one genre. He is also a lover of all-night-long sets, having completed 6 to date with hopefully many more in the future. 

In the world of production, Niall embarked on his creative journey in January 2023, and it has been quite a successful one so far. He’s gotten 3 releases under his belt to date, and they have already received support from artists such as VTSS, TRYM, Boyz Noize, Bad Boombox, Juicy Romance & 2qwik2gruv. 

With more projects currently in the pipeline, including his first label releases & remixes, he doesn't show any sign of stopping soon with his productions.

To celebrate the 240th Local Selection mix, Cork-native, NYC-based selector STE-VÍ, once half of the Hanley Brothers, takes us on a journey through the golden age of techno. Mixed entirely on vinyl, the young selector glides through a collection of tribal-kissed 90s classics featuring cuts from Marco Bailey, DJ Shufflemaster, Joris Voorn, Hardcell, and others.

New York-based techno artist STE-VÍ creates a unique blend of driving techno and groove.
The energetic DJ is influenced by late 90s/early 2000s techno, but he also includes recent cuts while keeping his gaze fixed on the record shelves. His style incorporates a fast-paced blend of loops, percussion, and rhythm to create an innovative sound that is reminiscent of the past. Recent headline shows in Boston and Toronto, combined with his breakneck style of vinyl mixing have seen him become a highly sought-after selector.

The Cork native polished his chops by playing with his brother at underground showcases under the name The Hanley Brothers. The duo performed at clubs and festivals around Ireland, and they were recognised for their harsh approach on techno. He currently lives in the United States, where he DJs at revered New York clubs and performs with industry giants.

STE-VÍ’s contribution to the Local Selection is a relentless assault of thumping drums and gritty basslines, cutting through the mix with a persistent closed-fist approach. His mixes have a raw, unabashed intensity that is synonymous with 90s and 2000s shuffling techno and the art of mixing it well – fast, choppy, and unforgiving. The hour mix is as smooth and slick as it is uncompromisingly ferocious, seamlessly blending teeth-grinding stompers with samba-soaked tribal grooves. This is exactly what a vintage techno mix should be.

TOOTHTAXI is a collaborative project by the London based DJ duo, Tileboi + DJ Yellowcar and they are next up on the Communal Groove series!

With a combination of TILEBOI’s darker, industrial sounds & YELLOWCAR’s tantalising grooves, TOOTHTAXI was born to be energetic, eclectic & dance floor focused. Taking inspiration from their independent sounds and being no strangers to a dance floor themselves, expect a deep dive into the pair’s wide musical influence.

Max is a predominantly Techno and House-focused DJ based in the North West of England. 

He has been an unwavering presence in the North West’s underground scene since his introduction to it in his teens, and continues to uplift it with his unique style.

Drawing key influence from the 1st and 2nd generations of Detroit & Chicago artists, Max crafts a soulful blend of House-infused Techno.
Over the last couple of years he has showcased his sound at a multitude of parties across the UK, including the likes of Meat Free, Tiribä, Birdsong, HØL, and Foundry.

Although being principally focused on Techno and House, Max’s library freely spans a depth of genres, with it also playing host to quantities of UKG and Jungle, to name but a couple.

Taking inspiration from Techno heavyweights, Ben Klock, Kobosil, Dax J and Funk Assault to name a few, His sound consists of Fast Paced, Groove Driven Techno while also delving into other genres such as Industrial, Hard Dance, Garage and Trance in his sets to add a bit of flare to his sets.

Having only began his DJing journey 2 years ago, he has played numerous parties across the north of Ireland including, WaX, Extase, JikaJika!, OCD, Emerge Festival and most recently Shine Belfast, Supporting heavy hitters like Azyr, Riotcode, Meltx and Klangkuenstler while also varying his style on support for Carlton Doom and PEARCE. 

Described as being one of the most passionate and supportive ravers in the scene constantly pushing people to support the scene and artists a like. 

With a bright future ahead of him in 2024, starting with a journey into the production side, He is surely one to keep an eye on.
