ABOUT PROSPERO:
“It was born out of an 18th century translation into German I stumbled upon: Ariel's notorious 'Full Fathom Five' song from Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'. As I looked into it, I found bemusing that it had been transcripted by my famous namesake August Schlegel and was meant to be sung to the character who bears the same name as my associate producer. The original text became the libretto for the 1955 Vienna premiere featuring baritone legend Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as the play's main protagonist, Prospero. Fischer-Dieskau happened to fall sick a few days prior to the opening night and eventually couldn't make it on the cast. So I decided to record my own take of this song as a sort of very niche homage to this milestone of German opera.”
