En juin 2011, Art District sort son premier album, Live in the Streets, distribué par Musicast. Un opus inscrit dans la continuité de l'EP de mai 2010, galop d'essai présenté à l'occasion d'une soirée à Strasbourg avec l'une des références du genre, DJ Premier.
Live in the Streets séduit tant les amateurs de hip-hop du cru, que les oreilles affûtées des mélomanes du jazz. D'un titre à l'autre, le groupe brasse et métisse une multitude de styles et partage sa définition de l’éclectisme. De la nostalgie de Back in the Day à la soul de One Love (feat. Maeva), opérant un virage surprenant vers la musique classique dans Moz'Art District, empruntant des sonorités franchement jazzy dans My Muse, le groupe revient également sur des fondamentaux de la musique vocale et swing en faisant un clin d’œil, big band à l'appui, aux grands succès des charts américains avec Sing. Art District n'en oublie pas pour autant de redonner au hip-hop ses titres de noblesse, à l'image de Cell (feat. Gab) ou Live in the Streets (feat. DJ Nelson), titre éponyme de l'album qui côtoie des rythmiques dubstep et drum'n'bass. Un savant melting-pot aux arrangements pointus, à écouter sans modération.

Definition

Art District est le croisement hip hop de différents quartiers musicaux, nourri notamment de jazz, funk et de groove. Le groupe brille par l’originalité de ses compositions et le flow fluide et intelligent de leur MC : Mister E, de New York, accompagné en beatbox par Rhum One. Art District revient aux fondamentaux du hip hop avec une basse-batterie qui pulse, enrichie par les mélodies des claviers, ou encore de la trompette et du saxophone.



Avec des influences allant de The Roots à Herbie Hancock, en passant par Miles Davis, Wu Tang Clan ou les Red Hot Chili Peppers, Art District est le fruit d’un métissage musical unique.

C’est en concert que le talent d’Art District prend toute son ampleur. Les musiciens remplacent les platines, apportant une chaleur et une générosité scénique unique, qui prend une ampleur inédite au cours des impros qui ponctuent les performances lives.

MATTEO (aka Zé Mateo), musician, script-writer, director and one of the founding member of the band CHINESE MAN, will release his first solo album in 2018. This album is called SCAGLIA ("scale" in Italian). For several years, while MATTEO was making music, touring with the band CHINESE MAN, through life crisis, places he crossed and people he met, he has been producing music. On Summer 2017, gathering all these tracks created from those different places and emotions he experienced, MATTEO has been able to create various but coherent pieces of music that can match these multiple environments. The symbol of chameleon seemed like the obvious choice, as adaptation is its strength. The creative process is hybrid and progressive, sometimes very personal, sometimes collaborative, fully arranged or inspired by a sample. We might add an instrumental piece later with maybe a MC or a singer. MATTEO usually works with musicians who bring their own style or capture themes he worked on and offered them. For the whole creative process, MATTEO also gathered artistic advices from his friends from CHINESE MAN and people of talent who are part or collaborate with the record label CHINESE MAN RECORDS.
