this is water is a mix i made with songs that calm my anxiety. it’s music that is soothing to me, that i love and inspires me. the title is a reference to David Foster Wallace’s speech of the same name. he says that the we have a choice over how and what we think, what we pay attention to. in these times i’ve realized that I don’t have to just accept a default feeling of sadness or anxiety but I can choose how I spend my time, where i put my attention and what i ingest. he also talks about how our default setting is so self centered but that we can choose to think differently and i feel like this pandemic has brought that out in us collectively, it beautiful. we stay in not just to stay safe but to make sure more vulnerable others are safe. we are fish and water is our environment, this is water. includes songs from fourtet, ultraísta, raymond scott, hiroshi yoshimira, caribou, duendita, empress of, brad meldauh, brian eno and others 💛
