This tune was the first tune I composed on a Commodore 64 SID chip for 23 years. It was Pål Syvertsen who inspired me to get started again so this tune is 100% dedicated to him.

Back 2 Basic

I had this picture in my mind of an open sportscar with a couple driving along the beach with palms and sunshine. The waves hitting the beach with white foam and the wind blowing softly through her long hair. 

This tune would be playing on the stereo in the car... enjoy the ride. Might make it a longer version some day. Maybe in Renoise. 

I have a dream/wish of visiting Hawaii someday, this might be how it would sound to me.

Visual Brothers (Music Compo Version)

Just a quick idea I had some night, had to put it into SID sound. A lot of my tunes just comes out of nowhere and demands to be put into a computer - or something...

Knights & Dames (Music Compo)

This tune was created for a diskmag on C64 which contains news and other scene related information. I wanted to make it futuristic/neuromancer kinda inspired. With a little ice-breaker in the middle. My goal was 10 mins tune without getting boring, but I ended up with 7 minutes, which I find rather okay too. 

It's part 1 of a bigger idea. I hope to compose the other parts... in the future. :-)

Electrosphere Part 1

I made this tune because one of my greatest pal's were down and I wanted to cheer him up with a happy tune. It turned out so well, that I decided to use this as my entry for Datastorm 2014 music compo and I got a 2nd place for it.

The Greatest Pal (#2 in music compo, Datastorm 2014)

Golden Moments were written for a huge hires bitmap scroller in our winning demo called "We are all connected".

The part shows a lot of golden moments from previous Datastorm parties, so this tune was meant as a "lets bring back those memories together" - love, peace and harmony :-)

When the tune kicks in, there is a Golden Moment logo on the screen and then images from the parties starts. Before that, a huge logo saying DATASTORM is scrolling over the screen sideways.

Golden Moments

This tune was composed for our winner demo at Datastorm 2014. The tune was used for a huge sideways scrolling hires bitmap and the first thing to appear was a giagantic Fairlight logo (one of our three groups) and as they have their "theme" I decided that it would be pretty fun to have that theme sound first in the tune. Then I ended the theme by holding the last note and then making it fade into a THX kinda effect to let people know that they should expect entertainment now.

So when the music kicks in, our OFFENCE logo starts to flash... but check out the demo yourself, and you will see what I mean.

The name for the tune was easy, as the final screen of the scroller shows a text we meant very much: WE ARE ALL CONNECTED... as in, all C64 sceners/fans are connected.. we share this hobby and fun with this old piece of hardware. C64 forever! :-)

work in progress... the lead is not 100% as I want it, but it will do for now... next step is to decide if I keep it this low speed or its going to kick off with a beat at the end.. or perhaps sooner...

Goodbye My Friend (work in progress)

I thought the idea of the Gubdata oldskool party happening in Sweden was rather fun and wanted to participate with something as they allowed for remote entries in all compos. So I decided to make something oldskool to fit the vibes of it. As I am really from the time of oldskool tunes I wanted to give it a try and do one with the sounds I really enjoy myself. 

Hope you like it too. I have some parts of the solo/leads that I wish I had made differently, but hey - it was made in a short time, so I am still rather satisfied with the outcome based on the amount of time spend.

I am particularly happy about the bass myself.

Berggreen I Am

This tune was composed specially for Jazzcat from Onslaught who is an editor for a C64 diskmag called Vandalism News. This issue was released at Flashback 2014 in Sidney Australia, so we thought it would be fun to make an intro with an australian accent aka picking a classic tune from an australian band and then try to make a cover from that.

It's a really cool tune, I must say I had a lot of favorites to pick from, but this one was so interesting because of all the breaks etc. PAL from our group did the graphics for the intro. An awesome piece of artwork that shows the famous harbour view of Sidney with the while concert hall buildings in the background. So it fits well together.

The original tune just "fades out" repeating the last few sequences, so I had to do something and then I decided to do this water/rain kinda sound where it "opens up" and restarts the tune. I dunno if its a bathtub that is filling up because someone got left behind (linking to the story) or its the pickup of an old recordplayer... you decide... or comment on what you think.

I'm sorry if I didnt hit all the correct tones on the correct places, but sometimes I had to "ajust slightly" to keep the fullness of the tune within 3 channels.

Never Tear Us Apart (INXS cover)

This tune was created for a Commodore 64 diskmag called Vandalism News. It's very slow on purpose and quite repetitive too, but its supposed NOT to take focus from the diskmag itself as the reader has plenty of pages to go through without thinking too much about the tune.

Dunno if I succeeded this time, was a bit in a hurry with this one. I still hear parts I think I might have done different if more time, but hey - I managed to get it done before deadline. 

Note: there is a music player inside the diskmag where the reader can choose which tune to hear, so if they get tired of one tune, they can just pick another one - IF all the composers delivers their tunes as promised. My focus this time was more on the intro tune with INXS cover, which you can find below here too.

Forgotten Times

A small crazy-drunk demo from our F*A*I*C group that makes weird/crazy small demos for the C64. 

This time we thought we would make a tribute to a danish guy called "Don Domingo", as he is pretty hilarious - at least if you understand danish.

Apparently we werent the only ones to think he is fun, so someone made a rather awesome funky tune/remix with his speaking ontop and you can hear it here:

The original Galactix (made in JCH NewPlayer Editor). I thought I had lost this version, but it later turned up to be used in a Lotus Intro. Meanwhile I had recomposed it for a demo from Triangle (Road to Excess vector part, http://youtu.be/osI6lyddCWE?t=17m21s ) where they showed realtime vector on a Commodore 64. That version was done in a faster player that used less rastertime. But in the end, once they were done with the demo, they decided to use the first version (which had reappeared) which I think was a good decision.

Ghost Of Scarzix

My 3rd SID in 23 years. I was VERY surpriced to find out that I got 1st place in the BFP music-compo by doing 3½ hours.

This one was composed in a hurry, right after we had finished adjusting my tunes for Scrollwars. I had 3-4 hours left till music-compo deadline and since I had never participated in one before, I decided to create this very short tune to have an entry and to support the compo. 

My personal purpose was to hear my own tune on the giant speakers, so I spend extra energy on effects that I thought could be fun to hear on them - just for the fun of it - and to learn from this experience, since I was attending the first demo-party in 2013 too.

Apparently I wasn't the only one liking this. :-)

Da Cheese Cut (BFP 2013 #1 in music compo)

A tune I wrote because it kept popping into my mind. I knew it was going to sound oldskool, so I decided to embrace it with modulated percussions etc. 

it turned out better than expected. I hope you like it.

At least PAL/OFFENCE liked it so much that he wanted it for his new "one hour project" and I think it fits perfectly.

Legacy Of Time

A tune I originally composed as a test of my skills to see if I could do a march kinda rytme and I ended up thinking of these 8-bit pirates enjoying some kegs of Grog ... kinda cartoonish style, like the funny pirates from Monkey Island. 

The intro part of the tune was a THX kinda effect I was playing around with to sort of surprice the audience as this was planned as a demo-compo tune, but it never really fitted into the demopart, so I decided to make Connected instead... and that was a good decision I think too.

A small funky cover version of Jingle Bells as I wanted to create a more rock/funky kinda style than the usual soft ring'a'ding'dong kinda christmas cheeky style...

Jingle Bells Funk

My first tune ever with STEREO SIDs aka 2x 8580 with filters and all + added HALL reverb to mix the output of the two chips.

The raw tune is 3+3 channels aka pure stereo, but I composed the tune with a Logitech G35 headset with surround/reverb enabled so they got mixed. That's the sound I have tried to emulate in my mix here, so you can gain the same experience with a normal Dolby Headset

Singularity

A small custom-designed intro tune for the cracking group called 'Laxity' (not to confuse with the SID composer Laxity).

They needed a happy intro tune with 64 frames between each snare hit, because of an effect they wanted to match the rytme. So I tried to build something long enough not to be boring, something small enough to fit an intro (aka looping un-noticable) and still hitting that snare right on timing. 

Hope you like it. It's not one of my most advanced tunes, but it was rather fun to create with a special purpose. I like a good challenge with a goal.

Relaxity 64

I wanted to do a more upbeat/modern tune as my entry for Gubbdata and I wanted to see if I could make use of the 2 SIDs to make the chords more clean and still utilizing the lovely appegio sounds of the SID too.

Bus Noise (intro)

A short menuselector tune. It had to start instantly as the user would either have just started the Demo of the Year, seeing this list of entries or just had come back from one of them. 

So no time for long and slow intro, just rock on instantly. I had parts of this tune laying in my work folder for a year or more, never really had any purpose for it, but suddently I was asked in the final stage of DOTY if I might have anything suitable... it just required some tweaks and fixes here and there and then we were good to go.

I like the pace of it myself, and now its airborn, don't hesitate to comment on my tunes. I love feedback.

Planet Carsberg

Moody Cougar was begun a few days before the yearly Mega Mountain Meltdown that is held in the mountains of Norway near GOL. A place where Stein invites our group to meet and celebrate for a weekend.

I was able to attend the meeting this time and on the saturday, we all decided that the C64 scene needed a little demo from us. So "PRIVATE PARTS" was begun. But it needed some music. Stein created a trance/techno styled intro theme and I began on this one. Late that night, I was done and so was the demo. Now "PRIVATE PARTS" was a reality.

Moody Cougar

This tune was composed in 2017, but never released, as I was saving it for a small demo I had hoped to create. The demo was supposed to loop and thats why the tune itself is created so it also loops - hopefully without you noticing it too much.

The tune is inspired by the old sounds of the 80's demos and the tune name is a tribute to our Offence member Lemming who always does a magnificent job of recording our demos and contributions on real hardware for YouTube and such. Lemming, this tune is for you.

LemmingWay

This tune is my attempt at making a cover/remix of the hit song called "What's Up" from 4 Non Blondes in our music compo on CSDb.dk where we try to come up with our artistic renderings of this lovely tune.

Credits belongs to the original group and Linda Perry of course. Note to her, your voice is really hard to emulate on an old computer and soundchip from the 80s without samples.

64 Non Blondes

Since 1986 when I got my first computer, a Commodore 64, I've been locked into the Grid.

I've been around almost every aspect of home-computer programming including:
game-development, intro/demos, music composing, graphical effects for both Commodore 64 and Commodore Amiga 500. 

Today I work with PCs, smart-devices, SQL-databases and web-development professionally. 

But, I am back into SID composing as that has some serious limits and therefore demands the composer to be ultra creative to get anything useful out of it. Just love the fun and sound.

The program I use for C64 SID composing is called CheeseCutter (http://theyamo.kapsi.fi/ccutter/). Its free, open-source and can run on any modern platform (Windows, MacOSX and Linux) and emulates the SID chip. When you pack the sourcefile into a SID file you can then use it on a real C64.
