Kyoto-born, Berlin-based DJ, producer and artist, Alex Kassian has become a firm favourite of ours over here at Phonica over the past couple of years. His sophisticated, lush and organic sounding productions have been picked up by labels such as Paramida’s Love On The Rocks and Alex Bradley’s Utopia Records in recent years. His most recent release, Leave Your Life, was released in 2021 via Pinchy & Friends, and we can safely say it was one of our most-played, and bestselling, records of the year.

Together with Hiroaki OBA, Alex is also one-half of Opal Sunn, who have been operating their own imprint Planet Sundae since 2017, through which they self-released a number of EPs, catching the attention of and support from dance music luminaries such as Andrew Weatherall and DJ Sprinkles.

Alex Kassian welcomed the first sunrise at Solar Village in 2023, and we can now listen back to his performance. He took Wonderers on a journey that started downtempo and slowly built his set out, marking a new direction for sunrise performances at our beloved venue.

Golden Plains '24 - Closing (7am sharp finish)

Justin Moy (jmoy) is a spatial designer and sound artist based in the Netherlands with a Chinese-Malaysian heritage. Combining his background in architecture with sound, jmoy constructs three-dimensional soundscapes that aim to tell spatial narratives.

For this Scattered Waves show, jmoy will be playing a self recorded and produced set consisting of field recordings, ambient works and archival family recordings. The set is imagined as a sonic fiction about the journey of a displaced being finding its place in foreign lands.

Scattered Waves is a cross-continental platform amplifying East and Southeast Asian voices in electronic music—both across Asia and throughout its global diaspora. Founded in Rotterdam by Vietnamese DJ, producer, and curator Kimmah, the project is based between the Netherlands and Vietnam, building sonic and cultural bridges between communities historically scattered across oceans and borders. 

Rooted in a diasporic narrative, the name Scattered Waves draws from the South China Sea, whose waves scattered Vietnamese communities across the world. These waters symbolize both the rupture of displacement and the persistence of cultural memory. Scattered Waves channels that legacy into a space for exchange and connection through music. 

The platform hosts club nights with all-Asian lineups across Europe and Asia, including a flagship Lunar New Year event in the Netherlands. It also organizes intimate listening sessions focused on ambient, experimental, and leftfield music by Asian artists, runs a record label dedicated to new sounds from East and Southeast Asia, and airs a monthly radio show on Operator Radio in Rotterdam highlighting voices from the Asian diaspora and beyond.
