SceneNoise and Sandbox Festival teamed up to bring the Selectbox experience to the beaches of Egypt's El Gouna Red Sea. Over three days our little box of noise gained a cult-like following as a hidden escape for a cosy dance whilst discovering some hidden gems of the regional music scene on the line up.

Hailing from Cairo, Chiati has emerged as a multi-instrumentalist performer in the Middle East. His music seamlessly blends emotive house rhythms with pop vocals, showcasing his versatility both in the studio and on stage. His seraphic vocals intertwined with harmonious melodies, honed through years of mastering various instruments such as the guitar and keys, have earned him various gigs at venues like Shorelines, XCHANGE Cairo, Glasshouse, and Nacelle’s Sandbox, among others. Collaborating with artists like Juno and Naila Marie, Chiato has graced the stage alongside renowned acts such as &ME, Damian Lazarus, Henrik Schwarz,  me, DJ Tennis and more. Recently, he unveiled his latest work on Noise Records’ "Genesis, منش'' with his eclectic house single ‘In the Dark.’ This week, Hatem presents us with a special set: a live gig by Chiati performed at Nacelle’s Sandbox Festival in 2023.

In this Select, Chiati performs an hour-long set guiding his listeners through his talents as a multi-instrumentalist. Starting off with a solemn debut featuring piano melodies, Chiati seamlessly transitions into different tempoed mixes, integrating various instruments and BPMs into his set. Touching upon various genres, Chiati’s mix is musically complex and layered.

NEDZ, a Cairo-based open-format DJ, is known for his unique approach to mixing the sounds of her world. Having lived between New York and Los Angeles for a long period of time, NEDZ’s sound is heavily influenced by her multicultural upbringing, fusing hip-hop and RnB with African, Caribbean, Latin and Egyptian sounds, creating a soundscape of her own.

On this Select 221, NEDZ is bringing you a meticulously-curated emotive set, centered around the Palestinian, Sudanese and Congolese causes. The hour and 12-minute set opens with a prelude in Arabic, retailing the rich cultural history of Palestine, with a soulful Ney melody playing in the background. Featuring a powerful South African Amapiano, and smooth afrobeats with Middle Eastern sonic undertones, the set –described by NEDZ as the ‘Sounds of Liberation’ –follows themes of post-colonial struggle and resistance, juxtaposed with the beauty and depth of pain uniting humanity across the world.

Lebanese DJ and producer Arabian Panther, famed for his keffiyah stage mask and his distinctive sound which can transition swiftly from a warrior’s march anthem to a club banger tinged with Arabic scales and instrumentals. His dynamic sets and productions pay homage to his multicultural heritage as a French child from the Lebanese diaspora, demonstrating solidarity with the Palestinian cause. 

Arabian Panther’s journey of solidarity commenced with the release of his EP ‘Desert’s Anthem’ in 2019, which caught the attention of Palestinian DJ Odai Masri, aka Oddz and helped him forge connections within the Palestinian music scene. After signing his first track with the first Palestinian techno label ‘Harara’ – managed by the late great Oddz.

For our 230th episode of Select, Arabian Panther has created a set exclusively for SceneNoise, which he recorded in one take at his home. The set is infused with some of his favourite tunes that he has been incorporating into his sets over the past year, along with a selection of tracks from his latest EP, ‘The Death of the Panther’, which he released on Ritmo Fatale on March 22nd of this year.

Featuring his own original tracks like ‘Hafla For Our Dead’, as well as ‘Lala Torkia’ by Cheb Hamar and more, the 66-minute set begins with an eclectic mix of Palestinian Dabke music, incorporating classic Middle Eastern instrumentals like Tabla, Mezmar, and Darbuka drums, which serve as the base for the set. Select 231: Mixed by Arabian Panther

Ahmed Refaat, aka Riff, is an Egyptian electronic music producer and multi-instrumental musician. Having grown up in the isolated industrial city of Khanka, Riff was deeply influenced by the bustling sounds of his daily life, as well as Egypt’s heavy shaabi rhythms and classic pop music.

His latest releases include a double single with rising local singer Nourine Abouseada and shaabi artist Veto, where he presents a softer, and more pop-inspired rendition of the music he makes. Riff is also widely recognized in the local rap scene, for his hit EPs with Karim Osama, ‘K.O’, and ‘O.K’.

On this episode of Select, the producer has cooked up an exclusive set for SceneNoise, exploring the sounds of the city as a harmonious symphony through his unique and experimental electronic lens.

Select 242: Mixed by Riff

Philippe Zarif, aka Boshoco, is currently one of the pioneering DJs and producers in the Syrian electronic dance music scene. Born and raised in Aleppo, Boshoco drew inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of his hometown to craft a distinctive playful sound. Imbued with sweltering rhythms and infectious grooves, Boshoco’s sets skillfully blend left-field electronics with contemporary Arab music.

For our Select 255, the Syrian producer created an exclusive 45-minute set for us in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. He recorded the set at his house, and played it on the first recording gear he owned at the early start of his career. The set features a slew of eclectic tracks by various prominent Arab producers such as Shabjdeed, Hello Psychaleppo and Postdrone.

Select 255: Mixed By Boshoco

On our 279th Select, we have Beirut-based DJ and producer Nicolas Merheb, who built up quite a reputation in the region’s underground electronic scene with his dynamic melodic house sets. His innate ability to read the crowd has seen him fire up some most prestigious clubs and venues across the globe, from Beirut, Doha and Amman to Dubai and Barcelona, sharing decks with a slew of prominent global artists like Mathame, Rampa, &Me, Marco Carola, Monolink and Adriatique.  

His select set is a heady melodic house ride decorated with driving four-on-the-floor rhythms and high-voltage pop anthems. The set features intricate arpeggios, throbbing basslines and anthemic synth hooks with hints of tribal house, as well as eclectic tunes like ‘Good Times’ by Tripolism and ‘Born in Blu’ by Chambord.

This week on Select, we have a special set from Dublin-based Saudi-born maestro Moving Still marking THREE HUNDRED episodes of our exclusive mix series 🎉 

Expect a pumping mix of bass, italo disco and house, featuring some of his personal favourite Arabic tunes. Simply put, this is what a DJ set by Moving Still at peak time would sound like.

Jamal Sul, or as his stage name goes, Moving Still, is a veteran DJ and producer who has carved a distinct authentic niche in the electronic music scene. His sound marries the oud-scented energy of traditional Arabic sounds with grumbling italo-esque basslines and groovy house beats. 

He is known for his HINRG productions and edit of Cheba Yamina’s ‘Sidi Mansour’, as well as tracks like ‘Al Disco Haram’, which not only topped the Rush Hour charts but also resonated with high-profile DJs, becoming a staple in sets around the globe. His releases have been featured on various globally renowned labels such as Cooking with Palms Trax and Dar Disku.

Select 300: Mixed by Moving Still

In this episode of Select, we have the Dutch-Kurdish DJ/producer duo CHAMOS, who have built a cult following across Europe with their club edits, fusing traditional West Asian sounds with bass and house music. 

For our Select 316, CHAMOS is bringing a mix dedicated to their latest EP ‘From Erbil to Amsterdam’, a project that turns traditional Kurdish instrumentals into hard-hitting club anthems. The mix features their own edits of SWANA classics along with tunes by famous producers who inspired them and have been played in their club sets.


Select 316: Mixed by CHAMOS

This week on Select, we have Brenda all the way from Colombia. Throughout the past three years, he has galloped through various  sonic territories within the global electronic music scene, establishing himself as a figure that is hard to define and one of the most innovative DJs in the globe. In his selection and mixing style, Brenda embraces the idea of ‘plunder-techno’, a collage of traditional Latin rhythms, encompassing dembow, cumbia, djembe and guaracha,  interspersed with variations of bass music, while incorporating noise textures close to IDM and club music.

For his select set, the Colombia native DJ and producer brings a mix that encapsulates his passion for the multiplicity of latitudes within the global south and its diaspora. He meshes together threads of Mexican tribal, Colombian bailoteo and Andean techno with the emancipated UK bass scene across the globe, playing on the similarities between Latin dembow and the new waves of electronic music from the Middle East region. “It’s an x-ray of my interests, specifically, my fascination with traditional percussion and how they can be employed in electronic music.” Brenda tells SceneNoise.

This week on Select, Cairo-based DJ Omar Ezzo returns to our Select series with an Afronic-flavoured mix of deep house and tribal rhythms. Omar Ezzo has built a reputation for himself in Cairo’s clubbing scene with his fresh take on afro-house. He’s also shared the decks with a latitude of international acts with the likes of Boris Brejcha, Magdalena, Giorgia Anguili, Sebastian Leger, Adana Twins, Andhim, Edu imbernon, Hannes Bieger, Massano and many more.

Back on our Select mix series for his annual takeover is the legendary Wookie warrior, Chewie. Known for digging up fresh, groove-heavy tracks, whether it’s sweat-soaked disco-house or heady minimal rhythms, Chewie is delivering an hour-long journey into the cosmos of house. This is a warped, high-energy set that would make Kessel Run look like a stroll in the park. Buckle up!

This week on Select, we have one of Cairo’s freshest young producers and selectors, Delrady, known for his innovative approach to tech-house, blending groovy house with classic funk, disco and blues, as well as hip-hop and rap. 

Since his emergence in the region’s electronic scene, Delrady has already released five EPs, such as ‘Big Big Dreams’ EP on Gawdat’s DancIN’ label, along with numerous singles and remixes, which have gained widespread recognition from leading DJs and producers across the globe. One of his tracks, ‘Keeping Working’, was played at Burning Man earlier last year. 

For his select set, he treats us to a taste of his infectious tech-house mixes, spinning in iconic rap tunes such as Central Cee’s ‘Doja’, and Drake & Lil Baby’s ‘Yes Indeed’, along with some of his original productions such as ‘Big Big Dreams’. 


Select 329: Mixed by Delrady

Joining us this week on Select is Peter Al-Khabout, aka PAK, an emerging selector who has been recently making noise in the electronic music scene across Syria and Lebanon with his genre-blurring sets, packed with bold track selection and unexpected twists.

For our Select the 330th, PAK takes us on a deep hypnotic journey of fresh grooves, heavy basslines, and dramatic, but also euphoric, buildups. His mix moves through lush house, relentless techno and atmospheric electronica. Think Dorisburg’s deep textures layered up with DJ Koze’s serpentine-like twists, and a dash of the driving energy of Ben Block. The set features a selection of eclectic tunes such as Shiffer’s ‘Magnum’, Aera’s ‘Running Hot’ and Luke Alessi’s ‘Walk On By’.

This Saturday, we have Cairo-based DJ Azzouni with a special mix that’s a little bit of everything from outside the club, packed with touchdowns in various sonic territories from Jamaica, Nubia, and Capo Verde, just to name a few. 

One of the most riotous DJs and producers in Cairo’s underground electronic scene, Azzouni is known for his signature genre-hyphenated experimental sets, mixing ambient, breakbeat, grime, jungle and deconstructed club sounds.

Instead of a traditional mix, Azzouni dug deep into his sonic library to bring us more of a three-hour, 33-minute and 33-second playlist, chasing joy outside the club vibes. The playlist is inspired by a recent trip Azzouni made to a pristine natural beach in Wadi El Gemal protectorate, called Ras Hankorab (which is currently facing a threat of being turned into a luxury resort. 

The set is a patchwork of various sounds that skate across swaggering funk, dub reggae, blues, jazz,  and everything in between, featuring a thoughtfully curated selection of eclectic tunes by the likes of  Ali Farka Toure, Mad Professor and Sharaf Band. As Azzouni puts it, “Drop in at any timestamp, and stick around if you like the vibes.”

Joining us on this episode of our Select mix series is the one and only Cheb Runner. A musical hurricane rooted in Moroccan soil, Cheb Runner is a DJ, composer and producer who represents a new sound of in-betweenness, nurtured by a diverse array of musical influences that run back and forth in time. His sets often feature first-hand recordings from his expansive sample pack of traditional instrumentals. 

In addition to being a fixture at some of the biggest clubs and festivals across Europe, Cheb Runner is a resident at Ghana’s Oroko Radio, a familiar face at Brussels' finest Kiosk Radio, and part of Rotterdam’s (A)WAKE collective. Most recently, he has also joined the Brussels-based Not Your Techno family. 

For his select set, Cheb Runner delivers a playful analog mix, supported by a unique set of synthesisers, where traditional Maghrebi sounds and shaabi rhythms pulse through deep techno, disco and Dutch gabber.

Select 334 comes courtesy of Jean-Philippe Kaya, aka KAYA, a Los Angeles-based DJ and producer hailing from Bordeaux, France.

Dubbed a Future Talent of 2025 by the Pete Tong DJ Academy in Ibiza, KAYA is known for fusing various musical influences from his Cameroonian and Congolese roots, as well at classical piano compositions, with contemporary electronic music. His music has traversed dancefloors at some of the world’s biggest festivals, including Glastonbury, Coachella, and EDC Las Vegas.

His select set is a hypnotic mix of melodic and afro tech-house grooves, featuring some of his own productions, along with a selection of his favourite tunes, such as ‘Oumuamua’ by Sauaro, ‘Eyes on Me’ by TMPLE and ‘Back 2 Me’ by Malachiii. 

Select 334: Mixed by KAYA

For our latest Select, we have Lebanese vinyl maverick, NeighborsByMusic. Her penchant for discovering new sounds has led her to build an extensive repertoire over the years, blending diverse music styles from different cultures. Her sets often incorporate influences from oriental, Brazilian funk, hip-hop and jazz. 

NeighborsByMusic treats us to a special vinyl-only set–initially recorded at JIVE in Beirut–that meshes together threads of Brazilian bossa nova, funk, and Arabic oldies from Simone and Hamid El Shaeri with 90s hip-hop and a hint of jazzy house here and there. The colossal proportions of the set, fitting together a multitude of different sounds, are somewhat reflective of the organised chaos that Lebanon is known for. 

Featuring a thoughtfully curated selection of feel-good tunes, such as Ezra Collective’s ‘Palm Wine’, Mtume’s ‘Juicy Fruit’, and Simone’s ‘Mabsouta’, the set ends abruptly, as if alluding to a typical electricity cut at midnight in Beirut.

Select 336: Mixed by Kira

This Saturday, BENN - a Taipei-based producer, DJ and founder of Over My Body dance label - is taking over our Select series with a one-hour mix of his recent productions and current favourites, blending Asian influences with sharp broken beats. The set features tunes like ‘Shiny Surgery’ by Cortical and ‘Veil of Dusk’ by Yes Reven. 

BENN has been igniting dancefloors across several continents with his symbolic, explosive energy and avant-garde club productions. Over the past few years, BENN released several EPs and participated in many compilations from different labels worldwide, each showcasing an evolution of his technique, from synesthesia’s tribal futurism to the organic natural pulses of Entheos.

Rebequita takes the helm of our Select series, delivering an hour-long mix full of diverse sounds that have shaped her eclectic journey. Expect high-energy blends of electronic beats, hyper-pop, and unexpected genres, as she merges sounds that defy traditional boundaries and explore new musical territories. The mix features recent favourites, unreleased gems, and tracks that break down the barriers between club music, experimental dance, and pop.
Known for lighting up dancefloors in France, Spain, and Mexico, Rebequita’s relentless energy has earned her a place at prestigious events like Lollapalooza and Les Ardentes, while sharing stages with the likes of Sammy Virji, Yung Singh, and DJ Babatr. Her bombatic style merges influences from global club scenes with a personal touch of adventure.
“This mix reflects what I’ve been listening to lately, featuring a variety of genres. I love blending everything into the same pot, exploring new artists and breaking down club barriers," Rebequita says. "Not everything is where it’s ‘supposed to be,’ and I love that. All built on a high-energy foundation, of course.”
In 2023, Rebequita launched ULTRA SUAVE, an event series designed to foster an inclusive, non-judgmental club environment, where dancing transcends boundaries and communities unite. Each ULTRA SUAVE event features diverse lineups, live performances, and a commitment to safe, supportive spaces for all.

In this edition of Select, we spotlight Vegie, a genre-blurring DJ whose curiosity and obsession with sound have made him one to watch in the region’s leftfield scene. Known for his fearless blends and emotional unpredictability, his sets pull from bass-heavy UK club cuts, lo-fi rhythms, and dancefloor catharsis.

Vegie’s musical journey started in his early teens, experimenting with mashups on a dusty family desktop. With a hand-me-down mixer passed from his father, also a DJ, he began digging through genres with an obsessive edge, developing a sound that refuses to stay in one place for too long.

For this SceneNoise mix, Vegie delivers a heavy, rhythm-charged session packed with sharp percussion, sub-loaded grooves, and a relentless underground energy. It’s a fast, fun, and raw listen, an honest snapshot of the tracks currently driving his sets. You’ll hear sounds straight from the UK’s most experimental corners, including standout tracks like ‘Things Let Down’ by Yami, ‘Voltage 3000’ by Tamlin, and ‘Life Sketch’ by 3X & Aleph.

This Saturday on Select, Paris-based Apple Music host and DJ Naomi takes charge. Her sets are known for being irresistibly danceable, where Afro-Caribbean rhythms and bass music pulse through rap and R&B tunes. Naomi has been a resident of Rinse France since 2021, curating two monthly shows: Club Gems and R&B Gems. 

Her select set is an energetic summer-leaning mix of percussive, synocopated rhythms with deep bass cuts, and subtle nods to her hip-hop and R&B roots–a playful hour to warm you up through the festival season. The set features hard-hitting tunes like ‘LESSGO’ by ABBEL and ‘Freak Like Me’ by Ziggy Twiss.

Select 340: Mixed by Naomi

This week’s Select mix comes straight from a high-voltage night where MSIYAN played alongside I Hate Models, an evening that carved itself into the memory of everyone in the room.

Born Mahsa Asiyan, the Iranian DJ and producer has become known for her euphoric yet tightly controlled sound, navigating fast techno and trance with a groove-heavy sensibility that hits the chest before it hits the floor.

MSIYAN's mix is a peak-time trip that wastes no time. Clocking in with high BPMs and emotionally charged transitions, this live set delivers the kind of energy that floods your bloodstream. It’s music that moves fast but lands heavy,full of body-shaking rhythms, hands-up moments, and flashes of pure, joyful release. “I’ve been holding onto this one for a bit,” MSIYAN tells SceneNoise. “Now it’s finally time to share it. Hope you feel it as much as I did.”

Listeners can expect big tracks from the likes of Marlon Hoffstadt (with his standout ‘Hotline Bling’ edit), Caiva & Julian Muller’s ‘Vigour’, and MSIYAN’s own selection of crowd-shakers like Skapier’s ‘Seb’s Hands Up’ and Swart’s ‘Hypnosis’. Every transition in the mix feels like a charged decision, balancing trance ecstasy with dancefloor urgency.

Taking over our Select 342 this week is A.M.I.R.A, hailing from Casablanca, Morocco. She is known for exploring a variety of techno sub-genres, weaving groovy and hypnotic beats into her sets, which she also showcases in her new podcast series Return to Groove. 

Her Select set is a techno mix driven by deep basslines and featuring rhythmic claps, crisp drum patterns and hypnotic vocal loops, over minimal melodies. The set features tracks like ‘Seeds of Distrust’ by Chlär, and ‘Oddbox’ by A.Morgan, and ‘Speed Dial’ by Corium.

This Saturday on our Select series, we have a special set from Zdat, a Cairo native DJ and the co-founder of techno party series Veldt. With a penchant for digging up unconventional sounds and taking cues from the underground scene in London and New York, Zdat blends hard techno, dance and ghetto-techno with industrial percussion and broken rhythms. 

On our Select 343, Zdat stitches together an unpredictable set that moves through several shades of techno, pulling tracks from Flor2k, SHFTR, and Panteros666.

This week on SceneNoise’s select series, Matthew Benjamin, AKA Bushwacka! - one of the pioneers of the global electronic scene - will be taking over with a very special set.

Bushwacka! was at the birth of the acid house era and sowed the seeds of the first wave of tech-house in the UK in the 90s. Initially a percussionist in the London School Symphony Orchestra, Bushwacka! became a member of the Rat Pack after a warehouse party in 1988. Bushwacka! was also part of one of the world’s most enduring DJ/producer duos with Layo. 

His career spans over three decades, during which he launched his legendary party series Shake It, which billed some of the biggest electronic acts on the scene like Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Laurent Garnier and more. He also held several international club residencies, including Pikes and Amnesia in Ibiza, and did a handful of shows across the globe.

With a new album and a 2025 world tour on the horizon, Bushwacka! treats us to a brilliant, loose-limbed, funky and percussive house workout (which also happens to be his first online mix in five years) featuring some of his most classic and rarest productions.
