Rewind to 88/89: the heady haze of two culture-accelerating summers commence and music, youth culture, fashion, and society are changed forever. All change: A paradigm shifting gift from our original dancefloor forefathers, a new fire of unity, musical togetherness and sense of creative adventure was lit. And it’s our duty – whether you’re old enough to have been there at the start, or joined the movement at any point in between – to keep those fires burning.

Fast forward to 2018: Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs take the torch and tend the flames in their own unique way with this timely seasonal dispatch. Building on the foundations dug 30 years ago, ‘Darkroom Dubs Presents Summer Love’ eschews any sense of nostalgia in favour of a celebration of the original principals that have shaken club walls ever since. And it does so with a spirited sense of unity as five firm label friends return bearing timeless gems that are fine-tuned to complement any summer selection scenario from 88 to 2048...

Long-time label brothers-in-arms, Of Norway light the embers with the poetically titled, ‘She Never Lost A Passenger’. Unrelenting kicks, slinky filtered bass, a powerful one-word vocal, subtle rolling breaks and a sudden drop into a classic M1 hook all wrapped up in a Balearic bundle of bliss; it’s the perfect start to a unifying storm.

Freska follows with another farsighted slice of freedom. ‘R.U.N’ continues the rich vein of Darkroom Dubs form he’s been building for over six years with a shimmering piano riff, hip-slinking conga hypnosis and all manner of trippy textures. Meanwhile, more psychedelic wonders can be found in ‘Infinite Interchange’, courtesy of seasoned summer lover Justin Robertson. Denting the Deadstock 33s dials for an ageless 808-melting acid house workout, it’s a sweet taste of what’s to come as the label prepares for his forthcoming vinyl release, ‘Music Is Madness (To Those Who Cannot Hear It)’ due at the end of August.

Skinnerbox are also on tease duty as they set us up for their own forthcoming Darkroom Dubs release, ‘Music For The Sad & Rainy Open Air’ that’s due in late July. Embodying the Balearic spirit with birdsong and Kenyan chorus, ‘Nyeusi’ squeezes their soul machines with class, subversion and a spirit that would sit just as well in a field off the M25 30 years ago or Ushuaïa today.

Finally, we’re whisked away in a fog of Argentinian cosmicity as venerable Buenos Aires selector Mariano Mellino allures us into a deep, extensive progressive trip. Introversion levels set to stun, ‘A Little Cloud Walker’ reminds us of the fine art of restraint, patience and guaranteed higher levels.

Authentic not nostalgic; ‘Darkroom Dubs Presents Summer Love’ celebrates our shared dancefloor inheritance. A bottomless melting pot, a sense of adventure, a love for the unknown and, most importantly, a feeling that everyone around you understands that too. Feel rooted, move forward together... We need to keep these fires burning.

After the well-received first edition, Get Physical Music return with Volume two in the Acid Love album series, as selected by label boss Roland Leesker.

‘Acid Love Vol. II’ see the Get Physical co-founder dig deep, turning up a fine mix of red hot cuts fueled by the sounds of the Roland TB303 and the mutations it inspired. The album features a host of the scene’s best names and includes brand new and exclusive tracks from Hoopalaï and The Fitness, Craig Williams & Sluggers, Guti Presents LL, DJ One Five and Lessnoise, as well as a Roland Leesker remix of Get Physical founding father DJ T..

The journey kicks off with Deep’a & Biri’s excellent ‘Echoic Memories’ which sets a truly atmospheric tone. Leesker himself then links with Andre Salata for the hypnotic ‘Oi,’ and after Salata’s raw remix of 'Master Blaster’ by DJ Pierre, Emanuel Satie’s ‘Free’ offers more rugged acid grooves. Leesker’s instrumental version of ‘Music Is Here’ is a real tripped out groover, Doorly offers some fine acid with his Phuture remix and the quartet of exclusives then offer wonky house, deep acid and drilling 303 workouts that take you to the cosmos. The last of these exclusives see Guti join forces with Roland Leesker as LL for a superb offering born from a musically fruitful night in Tokyo!

The mid-stages welcomes Detroit great Mathew Dear, a stunning ‘I Feel Love’ acapella, a hard hitting and acid laced remix by Lessnoise and a slow and sensuous deep acid meditation from Pezzner. Spanish techno titan Paco Osuna, Ali X and Pvlomo plus another exclusive from DJ One Five and Lessnoise then round things out in heady house fashion.

This is another landmark mix from Get Physical that shines a fantastic light on some of the best acid tracks out there. To accompany the album’s release the label have also produced a rather tongue in cheek piece of merch in the form of their distinctive ‘Make Acid Great Again’ cap’, which will be available soon.

It’s 2020, the dusty Pets plain spreads out before you. Nothing but sand, cactus plants and a bottle of good old red eye are all you have for company. Then you hear the shots. They’re fired with such flare they can only be from one man… Renato Cohen AKA the ‘Lone Ranger’
He fires in such a way you can’t help but move your feet. Then you move your hips. Then your head. Then your heart. You’re in funky town now and Renato’s the mayor. He leads with the disco bubbles and slinky restrained funk of ‘Lone Ranger’ before moving on to the heavier weaponry; the cowbell riddled, hoover-rattled stomper ‘Deocleciana’ and the bassline-plunging, deep funk hustling swagger of ‘Bismuth’.
And it seems our lonesome techno patrolman isn’t working alone… ‘Bismuth’ is also backed by an incredible remix from Jennifer Cardini. Ramping up the energy with a precision arpeggio bassline and injecting an entirely different sense of uplift with a lavish synth melody, it shoots from the hip in the most euphoric of ways.

Mathias Kaden returns to Rekids with four-track EP ‘Control Your Mind’, featuring a remix from Marcel Dettmann.

Previously appearing on Rekids in 2019 with his ‘Liberate Drums’ EP, Mathias Kaden makes his second appearance on Radio Slave aka Matt Edwards’ label with four original tracks of razor sharp material, as well as a remix from Berghain resident Dettmann.

‘Control Your Mind’ opens with the impeccably produced title track, an electro flecked roller. Featuring hypnotic synth work and subtle automated inflections, the cut effortlessly glides, peppered with the occasional titular vocal refrain from Sven Väth puncturing the groove. Shifting into 4/4 territory is ‘Conviction’, a restrained but stunningly effective track that makes full use of memorable off-beat synth stabs and shimmering 909 percussion to constantly drive the track forward.

On the flip, Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann turns up the heat with his remix of ‘Control Your Mind’. Filtering the vocals, the MDR and BAD MANNERS boss also delivers a resonant bassline that works in tandem with knocking percussion, as creeping pads morph and evolve over the duration of the track, creating a trippy and propulsive banger.

Classic dub techno aesthetics are front and centre in ‘Substance’, a track destined for the golden hours between late at night and early in the morning, while finishing the package in fine style, the digital only ‘Anticipation’ showcases Kaden’s skill in crafting a killer peak time track, adding a welcome bonus of yet another weapon for USBs worldwide.
