It's probably a good thing I'm doing these on my own: I'd have been a couple hours late with the Weekly Beats midnight-GMT schedule. 

This week's is another organic one: I didn't have a plan, but played with some individually synthesized beats, some Collision-based hollow-tube bass which I abandoned in favor of Analog, added a Tension instrument that sounds like clean electric guitar, and suddenly added a reverbed grand piano line.  That led me to a more melodic sense and a denser set of rhythms, to which I added a couple FM-synth voices (Live's Operator) and Moog guitar through the Reuss Effects RF-01.  And here we are. 

The title comes through a chain of association with the sense of promise and possibility one gets from looking at the view from a high point. 

What a weird mix. Maybe I should pump up the grand piano and FM synth a bit, and pull down the percussion a touch.  On the plus side, I finally like this snare sound.

Late, but still technically submitted on Sunday.  A complex week, what with tax time, wiring a guitar-building project (not quite successful yet), and various stuff of life going on. This piece emerged out of the percussion tracks, and I suddenly had the thought to use LinnDrum samples.  One track of 606 samples, one of a handclap library, real drum kit, two tracks of Linn, an Analog bass track, an Analog pad (kind of reminds me of the synth lines in Birdsongs of the Mesozoic's gorgeous "Waterwheel"), an auto-wah Analog melody line, electric piano, and a subtle track of Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator Factory. Whew.  Return channels are reverb, resonator + delay, and filter delay.  Title from a photo I took this afternoon.

This darkly cinematic shoegaze track has a blend of drum machines, acoustic drums, synths and samplers, and a heavily processed acoustic guitar.

Arriver

Lots and lots of tracks with this one: 15 (temporarily 16), and a lot of percussion: eight tracks of it.  This one started with a drone in the Max For Live multi-oscillator saw drone synth I whipped up, at 82, 76, and 41 Hz, inspired by something I'd been reading on radio frequencies used by submarines.  I started adding percussion voices (808, K3m, VDRM, assorted percussion over four tracks, and hand claps), and threw in some electric piano.  Three tracks of guitar (Res-O through Reuss RF-01 and Vox Wah, clean into Vox Wah, and just into Reuss), one of bass (Epiphone into the board), and finally Bleep Labs Nebulophone for the wildcard factor, probably inspired by the new Allen Ravenstine collection (it's good! Check it out: http://www.hearpen.com/hr182.html).  This one took a while to edit--I'd recorded a lot, and some just didn't work.  What remains seems to, though.  The title was an associative leap from the spinning sound of some of the Nebulophone parts. And a lot of the sound input involved electromagnetic energy.
