Stockholm’s Tiger Stripes appears on Matt Edwards’ Rekids for the first time with the ‘I Heard It Through The Bassline’ two-tracker. The EP starts with the aptly named title track, defined by its deeply infectious bass, which propels forward along tight house grooves and classy gospel vocals. ‘I Heard It Through the Bassline’ is followed by Tiger Stripes’ ‘Everybody’s Doing It’, a stylish, low-slung people mover with the air of a vibey, dim-lit establishment or introspective late-night journey through the city.

Strange Idols label founder Tiger Stripes is a prolific producer, remixer, and DJ who has been active since the early 2000s. He’s collaborated with artists like Kerri Chandler and Jerome Sydenham and released music via heavyweight underground imprints, including Hot Creations, Get Physical, and Sydenham’s Ibadan. Now, he moves the needle again with the ‘I Heard It Through the Bassline’ EP on Rekids.

Maurice and Philipp, also known as Zehlendorfer Disco Squad, are a DJ and production duo from Berlin. They have been taking a deep dive into the realms of cosmic disco for several years and also founded their own event series and hopefully soon-to-be-label “Disco Futurismo” which combines modern basslines with 80s-Synths, discoid rhythms and bouncy patterns while staying spacy. Have fun listening to their take on a mid-tempo disco-futuristic set!

Hier unser Mitschnitt vom letzten Samstag. Es war großartig, wieder in dieser ganz besonderen Wohnzimmer-Atmosphäre spielen zu dürfen. Wir haben uns von der ersten Minute an herzlich aufgenommen gefühlt. Von diesem Spirit haben wir uns treiben lassen und uns an keine Konventionen gehalten. Von Deep House über Techno ist alles dabei und abgerundet wird das Set durch eine Prise Funk ;)

Es gibt einen Ort im Weltraum, der wahrscheinlich bei der Eroberung der unendlichen Weiten zum Touristenziel schlechthin wird. Dieser Platz wird auf ewig mit den Worten „That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind“ in Verbindung gebracht werden. Der Landeplatz der Apollo 11-Astronauten im „Mare Tranquillitatis“, wo Neil Armstrongs „kleiner Schritt“ deutlich machte, dass Menschen in der Lage sind alle Hindernisse zu überwinden.
Besonders farbig ist die helle Mondoberfläche nicht, aber die Landschaft wirkt dennoch atemberaubend, da sie einen krassen Kontrast zum tiefschwarzen Weltraum darstellt. Der Mond besitzt somit eine ganz eigene Schönheit, die mit unseren irdischen Maßstäben nicht beschrieben werden kann. Mit wenig Reizen wird hier ganz viel erschaffen. Ein faszinierender Platz an dem für Äonen „Eindrücke“ der Geschichte bewahrt werden, bis sie von uns wieder entdeckt werden. Ein Hort der Ruhe und des Friedens.
Damit wir nicht noch Jahre Sehnsüchtig auf die Rückkehr zu diesem zauberhaften Ort warten müssen, hat Maikind für uns die Atmosphäre dort mit seiner deep story eingefangen und für uns alle eine mental-musikalische Tranquility base geschaffen. Hier können wir uns fallen lassen, um von seiner Musik aufgefangen zu werden.

Having lit up sunsets and sunrises the world over with their first outing on Leng, the deliciously Balearic ‘Last Night in Sant Celoni’, Payfone has opted for a more sensual and seductive sound on their triumphant follow-up.
 
Phil Passera and Jimmy Day are in fine form on ‘Sofian’, a deep, chugging and intoxicating affair topped off by a sleazy and breathy, half-sung and half-spoken vocal from Barbara Alcindor, previously of hugely successful European chart-toppers French Affair.
 
As with previous Payfone productions, no samples were used in the creation of the track. Instead, Passera and Day focus the action around hypnotic, slow-motion machine drums and a brilliant analogue synthesizer bassline that will quickly worm its way into your subconscious. 
 
On top of this the pair has layered up warming chords, languid boogie-style guitar riffs, colourful synthesizer lines, hand percussion and mazy Wurlitzer electric piano solos played by guest musician Phil Marten. It’s an undeniably alluring combination of musical elements that offers a clever counterpoint to the barely hidden melancholia within the track’s surprising lyrics.
 
Jimmy Day delivers the flipside ‘Loyal Mix’, a slightly brighter and more vivid interpretation that gives extra weight to the track’s razor-sharp guitar riffs and kaleidoscopic synth sounds. The result is a weighty, synth-powered dub disco workout that makes a fine accompaniment to one of Payfone’s most dramatic and addictive songs to date.

As one part of the "Zehlendorfer Disco Squad", Schnurrsen is playing at well-known venues all over  Berlin. In his warm and groovy sets, he combines anything with a touch of disco - from italo, house to indie dance.

Born in the mid-80s in Berlin, Philipp started DJing at the age of sixteen. Coming from a classical background playing drums and the piano, he was intensily drawn to the local hip hop scene at the time and came in touch with graffiti artists, who inspired him to become a DJ. Willing to use every occasion to master his craft, he started playing in small clubs and at block parties. Over time his vinyl collection expanded into various other genres, such as funk and soul, which in turn influenced his playstyle. 

In 2011 he founded the 'super fresh kids' collective in Potsdam and began focusing on electronic music and organizing club events. A decade later, he is touring clubs and festivals with his partner in crime as the "Zehlendorfer Disco Squad". He is the co-founder of the "Disco Futurismo", an eventseries which regularly spreads futuristic disco vibes around the city, which is aimed to be a label and platform at one point.
