Well that was an experience! 5 unreleased tracks of mine performed live at Grabowsee, an absolutely stunning abandoned sanitarium near Berlin. 

It was SUCH a big challenge to prepare and honestly at times felt perhaps a bit too ambitious, but the goal was always to get 40 minutes worth of my own music in a way that I could play it live while leaving plenty of room for improvisation using synths/guitar/my voice plus some other random shit (guitar pedals, a record player...).

Anyway, I got there in the end and I'm pretty chuffed with how it's turned out! Especially due to the amazing drone footage by Cinehawks and the contributions from the two fantastic fire artists. So big thanks to Berlin Brothers for inviting me to this project and I hope y'all enjoy the final product!

Schtu - Live Set @ Grabowsee (video link in description)

Here is the recording of my set at the Wilde Möhre Klimperkiste edition this year. I played the opening of the whole festival, Friday from 4pm until 7pm.

I was a little worried with this playtime that people might need a little while to get in the mood for dancing, considering this was the first big party/festival in over a year for many. 

But oh my god, everyone was AMAZING. People were queuing up at the entrance to the festival-grounds to get in and start dancing as soon as the music began, and the atmosphere was just incredible from the get-go.

THANK YOU to all the dancers, I had a really special time and I hope anyone listening to this recording can enjoy it too :)

Our next guest, Schtu, a passionate electronic music artist with an expansive knowledge of a variety of different styles and genres, presents his drink of choice: the Vodka Cranberry!

Schtu was born at the start of the 90s in Sheffield, an ex-industrial city in the north of England. Always obsessed with music, he spent his teenage years playing guitar in bands and in 2010 he bought a pair of Technics 1210s and started to collect records to DJ with. Thanks to his clear dedication to the craft, the gigs quickly began to flow in and he was soon resident at several club nights, usually playing drum & bass.
In 2012 he discovered - and immediately fell in love with - the Berlin house & techno scene, and a year later moved there to further evolve his own style. 

He started producing his own music soon after, and has since gone on to release on established labels such as URSL, Connaisseur Recordings and Laut & Luise, receiving DJ support on his tracks from scene heavyweights such as Adriatique, Frankey & Sandrino, Super Flu and Adana Twins.

2021 then saw the launching of Schtu’s own label - Casomat, with the debut release (Schtu - ‘Siberian Express EP’) receiving a 10/10 review from German print magazine Faze Mag. He’s since gone on to feature artists such as Murat Uncuoglu, Aldebaran, Johannes Klingebiel and Deckert on the label.

More recently, Schtu has now added a live-set to his arsenal, with the debut performance being filmed at Grabowsee by production crew Berlin Brothers (link to video below).

2023 will see him continue doing what he loves most - writing music, collecting records and making people dance. Armed with a healthy collection of analogue gear he now has both the tools and the talent to step up his game and take his music to the next level.

Sol Selectas presents the first solo EP from long time contributor Jean Vayat. Originally from Kiev, Ukraine, Jean relocated to Los Angeles in 2022, and has been fine tuning his unique sound, which combines elements of Organic, Tribal, Eastern Melodies, and a touch of Indie Dance as well. For his solo EP “Changes” we have 3 original songs, which vary in style, as well as one remix from fellow Ukrainian artist Emrat. 

Changes features Persian singer Mohsen Neshom, and is a powerful dance floor tune which combines trippy bass with cosmic synth stabs and beautiful Persian vocals. The song is a dedication to the Ukrainian soldiers fighting a senseless war right now, and the title refers to Jean’s own shift in his musical sound, from downtempo to more dance floor energy. 

Good Morning is a fun feel good tune which was cooked up by Jean after a delightful breakfast at his newly found home in sunny Los Angeles. The vocals are chopped in a playful way with the catchy melodic hook. 

Trayam Baban was inspired by Jean’s first night out in LA, hearing the tribal afro sounds of label owner Sabo. The song incorporates an Indie Dance groove, mixed expertly with Indian Vocals and sharp percussive elements. 

The remix by Emrat smooths out the original taking us into blissful organic house territory, with tribal percussion and deep chords and pads.

The cover by Helia Jamali takes us through a portal, to a parallel universe of constant changes.

Opening with ‘Found You’, this release has enchanting properties right from the very beginning. This cut rolls out with distinct percussion and a mesmerising riff. In the background, the sound of an excited crowd amplifies the impact of this captivating composition.

Release Info: 
The South American wunderkind Eze Ramirez drops another furious firework on our sacred Radikon playgrounds. A gated reverb straight out of the deepest studio chambers of the 80s introduces us to 'Detuned', leading further into a dark dungeon of fizzling synth weirdness. Maxxed out filters are blasting synthetic screams out of the speaker over a stoic beat pattern which nails this track directly into the dancing feet. Over the top one shots interwine with rhythmic patterns played by melody percussion hybrids. 'Cinetica' sticks to the same patterns of juvenile playfulness combined with a cinematic gravitas on the harmonic side, a quasi darker sibling to the predecessor. The constant drive never lets loose of the listener, only a few selected break moments leave rare spaces to breathe. Both tracks prove the staggering talent of the Argentinian producer, blending a whole range of modern electronic genres into a jut out release like this one.

It's taken us a little while to fully process what happened on Sunday but now we've had the time to recover from the madness that is Fusion Festival (you too, we hope??) we're realising just how much this gig meant to us and how happy we are with how it all went. Thank you to everyone who was there, who waited the extra 40 minutes while we battled with some technical difficulties, who cheered, sang our lyrics (wait, what?!) and danced with us. You were so supportive and after the first couple of songs the nervousness was almost gone and we could just enjoy sharing what we love together with you all. THANK YOU! You peeps are just great. <3

So, without further ado, here's our live set on the Velvet Soup stage at Fusion on Sunday night. Unfortunately the quality of the recording isn't great (where's the bass?!?), and we actually had to re-record a couple of parts at home due to an issue with the accordion microphone picking up the sound coming from the speakers, but we tried our best to play it exactly like we did on the night and blend it in smoothly with the original recording.  We are proud and happy and we hope you like it!

Really happy with how this one turned out. Starts off pretty deep but then gets more housey and later on more techy. Found a way to include lots of tracks I'm really feeling at the moment, even if they aren't necessarily the sort you'd normally mix together in one set.

Mostly new stuff but with a couple of older tracks thrown in for good measure.
