In the background of this broadcast, you can hear a recording from the 1978 Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music. This audio material was taken from a lecture by the composer Hxxxxt Lxxxxxxxxn. It is immediately apparent that the recording quality is not good. Glitches, background noises, and low digital resolution render the speech almost completely unintelligible.

However, this relationship can also be seen from the opposite perspective: the composer’s speech is disturbing the continuity of the noise.

In the following excerpts, the vocal sounds of the recording will be manipulated, covered, or completely eliminated. When the composer is thus removed, the sounds unintentionally captured by the recording medium become the actual musical material.
