Following on from his massive ‘Feel It In My Bones’ release (which gained support from the likes of Moodymann, The Black Madonna, Gilles Peterson, Sassy J, Seven Davis Jr) and a killer remix for Afrobeat legend Dele Sosimi – North London producer @booksdj returns to XVI Records with two storming edits, kicking off their new ‘High Praise’ series in fine style.

We feature the flip's ‘Passage Of Time’, a track that takes a slightly more introspective approach in comparison to the A-side, it’s shuffled hats and hazy keys giving way to majestic, uplifting horns – guiding the way down a psychedelic black hole, it’s laid back groove providing a perfect soundtrack to the voyage, as planets spin by in the darkness.

Church as an outlet have always ensured they are pushing the boundaries of dance and electronic music, while retaining their melodic and jazz-infused sound at their core. This has historically come in the form of fantastically crafted sampled pieces incorporating various live elements; this time though, they offer up @AuraSafari, a fully fledged band with a full sumptuous LP for your listening pleasure.

Aura consists of, Alessandro Deledda, Andrea Moretti, Lorenzo Lavoratori, Daniele Melloni and Nicholas Iammatteo. The band started with the meeting of a musician and a group of dj's and producers coming from different musical backgrounds and generations. Aura Safari is the union of various musical eras and influences such as jazz fusion, 80's boogie, world music, Italo house, balearic beats and jazz funk. 

We're lucky enough to feature 'Island Life', the most dance-floor friendly track on the LP. Pure island feels emanate from the tracks soul, with soft yet vibrant tones riding on the back of the swung and dusty stonk which anchors this cut to the shore.

Hidden Spheres is the alter ego of Manchester’s Tom Harris, who first made his mark on the underground circuit with his release 'The Bloos' on Moods & Grooves, before following it up with the much in demand ‘Waiting’ on Lobster Theremin offshoot Distant Hawaii.  

Here, Tom joins the Scissor & Thread family, the Brooklyn label founded by Francis Harris, and home to music that traverses a number of boundaries. Hidden Spheres fits right in - the five track 1985 EP blends house, broken beat, ambient, jazz and other elements into a heady brew. 

'King Tut' starts proceedings, a laid back jazzy groove, rich in textures and soulful flourishes.  

'My Names' touches on the UK broken beat legacy of 4 Hero and Bugz in the Attic - an off kilter groove layered with sweet jazz and house inflected licks.  

'Karl' is a much more direct dancefloor track, albeit with the deepness that we expect from Hidden Spheres.The penultimate track '1985' steps into the unconventional house vibes of Detroit's third wave.

'Soon We’ll' finishes up the EP - a supremely jazzy piece built around the sax, piano and washes of strings and ambient elements - a superb closer for a deep and heartfelt release.
