Here, Scissor And Thread, the Brooklyn imprint headed by Francis Harris and Anthony Collins share JVXTA’s debut album - Euston Blues. 

The album is a collection of moods and textures, from woozy soundscapes like opener No One Needs to Know and Voyager, to grooving, dusty house tracks like Hold On, Water Temple and Lost in Place. 

Tracks develop from ambient textures into leftfield beat excursions (Beyond) and incorporate thoughtful samples such as the spoken word poetry in The Stolen Child.

Elements of free improvisation and experimentation pepper the album, while a strong thread of atmospheric cohesion winds its way through the eight tracks - making Euston Blues a truly rewarding and rich listening experience. 

"Euston Blues synthesises deep chords, classic house rhythms and jazz laden influences to chronicle an intimate journey of physical and psychological isolation." says Charles Field, the man behind the JVXTA project. 

"Scope is relative and this transposition is explored from the seclusion of a single room to the expanses of the Beyond".

"Water Temple", a dusty house track,  is the lead-single taken from the album.

Elements of free improvisation and experimentation pepper the album, while a strong thread of atmospheric cohesion winds its way through the eight tracks - making Euston Blues a truly rewarding and rich listening experience.

Field Trips - Ambient Dreams

In October of this year, Bliss Point was invited to host a takeover of @radio80000 to feature the sound of the label & party. The takeover featured hourlong mixes from six artists who have payed the Bliss Point party, released on the Bliss Point label, or both.

@koichisue rounded out the takeover with an hour of melodic club sounds.

The meex we're presenting this week was recorded in Berlin, Germany at the end of August during the last heat wave that suffocated Europe. The first time we gave it a try we really felt it bottled up all the sweat with its 100 minutes of torrid, sexy and groovy house beats. The curator is no other than Burnout Sumner, the music enthusiast, DJ and very nice guy behind The Messy Mix series.

For our 176th show we welcome Al Zanders, a multifaceted artist hailing from the vibrant music scene of London. His musical journey is punctuated by his renowned edits and stellar productions, making waves with iconic labels like Phonica Records and Roy Davis Jr’s Undaground Therapy Muzik. While Al is now based in London, his heart remains in Sheffield, where he operates his beloved label, A-Z Records. 

The reach of his music is far and wide, from the electrifying Dekmantel Boiler Room set by Midland to the eclectic soundscape of Gilles Peterson's 6 Music show. Renowned names like Leon Vynehall, Denis Sulta, and more have all featured his tracks in their playlists, solidifying Al's reputation as a go-to artist for genre-bending, dancefloor-igniting productions. In fact, his prowess as a producer was so undeniable that it prompted Roy Davis Jr to revive his classic Chicago label, Undaground Therapy Muzik, after 16 years, solely to release Al's 2018 Guidance EP. And the story continues, with Al's music slated for a comeback on the label in summer 2023, alongside a slew of edits and releases in both digital and vinyl formats. Notably, Al's track "Long Gone" has achieved over 3 million streams on Spotify, a testament to his growing influence in the industry.

When it comes to his DJing, Al Zanders is all about fun, energy, and soul. Whether he's spinning tunes in an intimate Tokyo basement club, rocking the stage at a massive festival like Lost Village or Gotwood, where he's been hailed as a highlight, or gracing the decks of a renowned venue like XOYO, you can always count on Al to bridge the musical realms of deep, soulful house and disco from around the globe. His sets effortlessly traverse Italo, South African, Anatolian, American, and more, weaving a rich tapestry of sonic experiences. This uninhibited and in-the-moment approach to music is a homage to Sheffield, the city where Al first discovered his passion for DJing and fell in love with the art form.

After a brief hiatus, Al is making a triumphant return in 2023 and beyond with an exciting lineup of back-to-back releases on various imprints, proving that he's just getting started on his musical journey.

For his Bside Podcast Al Zanders treats us to some of his most cherished records from many genres. The first half hour consists of ambiant, funk and afrobeat, then he moves to all sorts of house music for the final hour.

The long overdue revival of our mix series is finally here, with this killer edition from London via The North East's @meganleo.

Recorded live from @fabric at their Continuum party in March, Megan reopened Room 3 on Sunday afternoon while Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann and others were shaking the panels in Room 1.

Many of you will know her already from regular appearances in Newcastle, holding residencies for Me Me Me, Midnight People and Cafe 1001 as well as her very own Swirl party. 

This year has seen the release of her debut EP on Me Me Me, playing shows at Pikes Ibiza and up and down the UK with more of the same in store for 2024.

It's an honour to have Megan contribute to our series and we hope you enjoy the journey 💫
