Reboot rolls out TEC148 and takes us ‘Behind The Scenes’ on his debut release for SCI+TEC. This powerful performance is split into three acts, opening with the epic title track and its tidal of techy synth that snarls from the opening bar. Almost overwhelming, the first foray subsides as we’re bathed in a sparkling, trance-like melody. Whilst the growling lies beneath the glitter overcomes to produce an incredible opener.

The shimmering sounds and contrast work wonders again on act two, ‘Duende’. An understated, warm and groovy bassline provides the backbone and is drizzled with drops of ivory as Reboot soothes us with his piano melody and orchestral strings. Topped with piercing cymbals, Duende leaves us excitedly awaiting the finalé.

Reboot throws us a curveball with his final track ‘Circumstance 23’. From the joy to jack, the closing number drops like an electrified ball of funk. Snares, hats, rimshots and buzzing bass might make Circumstance 23 a perfect final act here, but sets it up to be the perfect party starter everywhere.

After Architectural’s Heaven Can Wait EP from earlier this year, North Lake here supplies three techno gems on this 12” for Maceo Plex’s Ellum, following up a string of hit releases with Sweatshop, Phonica, Permanent Vacation and others. Each track displays North Lake’s expert craft in a different way. Opening up is ‘Shimmer Land’, who’s haunting melodies and textures grow and grow throughout the track, over an undeniably infectious, tightly swung drum groove. Next up is ‘Solid Metal Funk’, which immediately lives up to its name with percussive stabs of metallic FM synthesis. These stabs form a rhythmic and melodic backbone for the track, dancing around over five minutes while simple drums hold this effortlessly danceable composition together. The B side of this 12” is ‘Paper Dreams’, which quickly disregards the lightness of its precursor in favour of a clearly deep house inspired techno, using swirling synths and emotional melodies in careful equilibrium. The result is a track that simultaneously pulls one half of you into a trancelike, insular state, and the other half of you to the centre of the dancefloor. The perfect end to this sublime, multifaceted EP.

Maetrik tantalizes us with this outstanding release. Deep and dark warping modulation, twisting upon a bellowing low end is accompanied by searing experimental riffs slithering throughout Cortex 11 - B

Ninex 7 – C has a low end drone of power, which builds slowing alongside a relentless hat before releasing into a mind bending synth pattern of pans and fluctuations. Synth depth reigns supreme as the weighty beat kicks into gear, completing a truly mesmerizing Maetrik 2 track production. 

The EP will be available on both digital and vinyl release on the 29th September. Whilst this label is fresh, they stand to showcase a string of superbly creative and unique releases in the months to follow.
