After his fabulous first appearance on our Kalaidoscope VA we welcome back French artist CLAIN with his own Vierge EP on Mirror Records. The title track Vierge starts progressive and builds up into a stomping dancefloor banger featuring lovely vocal chops and slightly trancy melodies. Monsieur Pluspetits remix of Vierge takes a darker approach adding a haunting and technoid touch to the release. The second original track Better Now Than Tomorrow sustains a quite dark vibe but the playful melodies and rhythms add to a bittersweet masterpiece. Vierge is one of these very unique releases that have something for any taste and will resonate with its listeners for a long time.

Rising Brazilian-born talent Fred Lenix steps up for his Truesoul debut. 

The producer bubbled to attention with impressive cuts on Ellum Audio, led by ‘The Rails’, before following up with releases on Pig&Dan’s Elevate and Fur Coat’s Oddity imprint. A qualified sound engineer, the 25-year-old possesses a talent and distinct musical signature that belies his years. While mining old school techno and electro for inspiration, he’s resolutely a futurist, melding these textures with melodic elements and sci-fi sensibilities to create an immersive sonic world.

‘Somewhere EP’ is an exciting step in the Turkey-based artist’s evolution. The work begins with ‘Void’ characterised by menacing metallic soundscapes and head-caving reverb that begs to be played on a hefty soundsystem. The title track is an ice-cool roller, heavy on dramatic tension and narrative arc, reinforcing Lenix’s production skills. ‘M81’ utilises pitch modulated pads as a bed for the snaking bassline that connects with thrilling club-ready effect. The EP concludes with ‘Clara’, a beautiful electro-tinged cut featuring Daniela Serey on vocals. An impressive and very interesting debut from an artist set for a rapid ascendent.

Russian artist, Maksim Dark, tail-ends 2016 with his second SCI+TEC outing. Having already impressed label boss Dubfire with his fearless brand of groove-laden techno, the young producer, welcomed to the label family with his February release of ‘Acidstage,' returns with his new ‘Montain’ EP. 

Opener ‘Look Back’ instantly electrifies with its growling bassline, pounding Timpani’s and clapping crescendo, to create a devastating crowd pleaser that is eyes-forward, at all times. 

Bassline to the fore again on the title track as its throbbing waves intensify and then drop away, only to regroup and come again. Garnished by an array of synth chords, melodic keys and wild sounds and fx, it also features another of Maksim’s own demonic vocal lines. 

Final cut ‘Slaphappy’ segues seamlessly with its predecessor. Narrated and powered again by the chilling vocals and guttural pulse of its bassline.
