{Premiere} Rolaz - Reverse Psychology (Mathematica Records)

One of the very first releases I had as Optical from 1996...I was exploring all the styles of DnB I could at that point and this was a track aimed at capturing the jazz and funk sounds I loved growing up. Not a style I am associated with these days I guess but still a time where I learnt a lot about making music.

The first METHXX release of the year comes from Andy Skopes with his exquisite 'Speechless EP'.

We're taken on a journey through Andy's musical brain, with diversions into the rugged breaks of 'Séance' and the aural paradise that is 'Heroin Wash', which are just two of four perfectly crafted pieces of drum and bass on offer. The atmosphere and energy across the EP is weighted perfectly, whilst every track almost sounds effortless in the way it's been put together, something that Andy has mastered and can now proudly show off.

Alright, maybe he does warrant a bit more than that.  Myor boss Coco Bryce returns to his self- proclaimed "second home" at 7th Storey Projects with two new bangers, something of a natural sequel to the much-loved Gunna released on 7th Storey in the form of a cheeky little 10" in 2019.

On the A side you'll find 'My Girl' - a roughneck breakbeat ride but with sweet and soulful vocals and Summery synth-lines smoothing out a bit of the roughness - a typical Coco workout, and that is by no means a bad thing!

On the B is U Can C In There, a gorgeous roller - just listen, the music speaks for itself! 

Mastered & cut by Beau Thomas, pressed at Record Industry and presented on Coke Bottle Green vinyl - fancy ;-)

It’s been a year since Nebula last landed on the mother label… and he doesn’t waste time in reconnecting, with the first track on the A side (Interconnections) an absolute darkside bomb - thunderous Amen, sub-low bass, pitch black atmospherics in check, taking no prisoners.

Detached From Reality continues, menacing and brooding in equal measure, with intricate drumwork showcasing Nebula’s Jedi skills.

The mood lightens on the B side, with Obliquity bringing the sweeping atmospherics to the fore alongside killer Apache science, while Virtual Oceans takes things ever deeper, drifting off into the outer reaches of the solar system.
