Dream of a way and a time and a place
I'm plagued by the thought of the sad on your face.
So I slept in the clouds of your eyes to get high,
and I painted them rose trying not to pass by.
But slow I sank like poison or a pill or toxic rain
that gently eats away.

Ran like a coyote to backtrack my grief.
(Crazy at last and with sharp broken teeth)
And it didn’t seem likely that I could retrieve
A patience for life that would give me relief.
But swift you spread like pollen or a laugh or ocean crests
that gently lap away.
