The beginning is still pretty rough, and there's more mixing to be done for sure, but I feel pretty good about it for a day's work.  It transports me back to the late 90's, dancing until dawn.

Dark Tide

This is track 13 of 30 for my 30 Sync Beats in 30 days challenge. March 13, 2021. I hope you like the vibe.

I got up this morning and started writing this.  Saved everything to my flash drive, drove over to my buddy James's place for some socially-distanced studio time (we've got a pretty good [manageable] setup working on opposite sides of a window, which is a better option now that it's warm again).  I loaded the project up to show him what I wrote, and it was all gone.  I figured I'd just saved it in the wrong place and it was on my computer at home, but it wasn't there either.

Bummer, right?  It was not the end of the world, but it was very frustrating.  On a positive note, after recreating everything, I think this turned out a little better than the first time.  It's another dark one.  I began with a sample of a drum line doing some cadence and built on top of that.  This one will be fun to extend and remix.

This is track 1 of 30 for my 30 Sync Beats in 30 days challenge.  March 1, 2021.  I hope you like it.

I've been meaning to challenge myself to do 30 tracks in 30 days for a while.  With my birthday a month away, now seems like the time.  It's been a crazy year, the world has changed a lot and I have changed right along with it.  One of my bands broke up, another hasn't rehearsed since March 2020, and I've transitioned to making music on my own on my computer.  I've learned a lot about music production and audio engineering.  Now I'm putting it to use in a big way.

I recently turned my attention to submitting music to libraries to be considered for sync licensing for TV, Film, and advertising.  I've put together a template according to a standard format, and I'll be tweaking it as I go.  At the end of this month I intend to have a fair few tracks to start shopping around and a process for consistently creating more.

I'm using this 30 in 30 as an opportunity to launch my Patreon page as well as my page over at Twitch.  There will be some kinks to work out, but I'm really looking forward to this ride.  The track I wrote today has already taught me a lot about how I want to work this process.  It's a different approach to making music, awkward right now, but it's going to be awesome.

This is what I made today.  The mix is a bit muddy, I'll return to all the tracks at the end of the week or so to mix them.  My ears need a rest, I'll just make things worse and never make it to bed if I try to mix it right now...

It would be super cool if you follow me on this journey.  I like to make a lot of different types of music.  I've been making a lot of electronic music because it's easiest for me to experiment with and record in my pandemic home studio (aka my front porch).

This is what I made today.  I woke up at 2am.  Couldn't get back to sleep.  Got up and made this (most of it) before work, and finished it up this evening.  Abby says it sounds like a into theme for a psy-thriller.  What do you think?

Psy-Thriller

This is track 3 of 30 for my 30 Sync Beats in 30 days challenge. March 3, 2021. I hope you like it.

This one was a lot of fun.  I wanted to change gears a little and take the energy in a different direction.  

Every day brings new challenges and new lessons.  Ableton decided to do something that I still don't understand, but I managed to work around it.  I really had to step up my pace.  I have a weekly studio session with my buddy James for our collaboration Arch Allies (we meet twice a week via Zoom), and I needed to "finish" this beat before it!  I managed it, mostly.  

Of course nothing is ever really finished in a day for me.  I'll take the next step in mixing the tracks I'm writing this week on Sunday, I'll go live over on Twitch to sort of document the process, at least for a little while.  Being on video may prove to be too distracting, but I'll try it.  It's all the rage.  5pm on Sunday.  Be there.  (I'll get a link up soon, and probably make a FB event).

I'm also going to host a listening party sometime soon to pump up these jams and maybe dance a little.  More on that to come, too.
