Numa Crew & Killa's Army - We Nuh Tek Talk [NUMAREC001]

The latest installment of the Hold Tight Records digital catalogue comes courtesy of Ickle, a core Hold Tight family member and exciting up and coming DJ, producer and engineer. Ickle bring us two roots inspired tracks alongside the vocal talents of Dee Gomez and Indra MC.

The opening track from the EP ‘The Most High’ is a perfect example of Ickle’s energetic and hypnotising signature sound. A backbone of roots drums and a rolling bassline accompanies piano skanks and organ licks, with Dee Gomez providing euphoric and catchy lead vocals that go hand in hand with Ickle’s dubbed out style. 

The second track ‘Eye For An Eye’ is one for the sound systems. Incorporating heavyweight rolling percussion alongside stomach churning low end and ethereal sound effects, this one is a must for any selector. Indra MC compliments this with his signature style, hypnotic and melodic vocals accentuating a conscious subject matter.

HTD004 takes inspiration from the roots of UK sound system culture, whilst representing the Hold Tight ethos: presenting new sounds that draw heavy influence from the music’s history.

It’s been well over a decade since Liondub & Sotto Bless released their first single “Heartbroken” on Pinch’s UK based Earwax Imprint.  Fast forward to 2018 and these two get back to business with the weed anthem “Sticky,” and are joined by Suku from Ward 21 who delivers “Global”. Both tracks are infectious, minimal sub-bass driven cuts with next level lyrical content. Deep, percussive, jungle inspired dancehall production oozes bass-weight and gets early support in Jamaica, The UK, Africa and Canada by dancehall selectors like Hottaball deep in the ghettos, and Jamie Rodigan high on the airwaves. SOTTO BLESS - STICKY

This infectious treat of the senses is perhaps the happiest song you are likely to hear today, if not this week, if not the whole entire year. It’s patois mixed with the Glasgow patter, huge horn riffs, foot stomping beats and it’s an Afrocentric adventure with a Ska mentality and you will love it.

For BS008, we called upon Ago from Italy's Numa Crew to deliver a sound system sheller. Fish brings his signature tribal bass sound in for the bass heads. Kreed's 'Silky Way' remix is 140 bubbler whilst Gella brings the grit for the Jungle / D&B crew. Altogether a well rounded remix taking the original to new heights.

Chatterbox was picked up by our man Gardna whilst Samson Sounds performed it with MC Tom Spirals at Scotland’s renowned Eden Festival. It was quickly signed, sealed and is now delivered just for you.

Back for 2019, Mungo's Hi Fi and Eva Lazarus come good with a playful reworking of Max Romeo's classic 'Three blind mice' telling the familiar tale of a party stopped by the authorities.

With Eva's flawless vocal delivery, switching from singing to toasting alongside Mungo's phenomenal production style they form a formidable and versatile team. This is the first track taken from their forthcoming album, More Fyah out in July.

Fusing modern dancehall with half time drum and bass More Fyah encapsulates  the experience of the UK festival scene, bringing flavours of carnival, underground clubs and soundsystems together.
More Fyah was as commissioned as part of the live theatre production, KID_X. The show has been created by the combined skills of Bassline Circus, MHz and Feral. Mungo's Hi Fi were asked to write the music for the show and Eva has a starring role in the performance.  It is showing throughout Scotland and beyond from April.
The title track is from the forthcoming album, 'More Fyah' out in July.  The  creation of 'More Fyah' was Funded Creative Scotland and PRS Foundation Open Fund.'
