Pleased to say that this 120 minutes defined a generation. 1999 was such a golden year for Trance music and many people reference this very set as opening their eyes to the power of Trance.

It's hard to believe how groundbreaking and well-polished some of the tunes that I selected and played out, really were!! This mix still sounds timeless judging by today's standards and features tunes from the likes of Tiesto and Ferry Corsten, long before they became household names. If anything would be able to remind us of a simpler time when music was EVERYTHING, we lived for the weekend, and work was just the monotonous bit between long and fun-packed parties… it would be the image below! 

Crammed with tracks predominantly from the golden era of trance, skilfully remixed and brought into the present by the talented Charlie Walker and myself, I put this RΞBOOTΞD showcase together with the intent of encapsulating everything we love about trance and, with the tracks I’ve included, spark off as much nostalgia as possible. One track that will surely get the Sheffield faithful reminiscing has to be my collaboration with Skylex… Crazy Malamute’s ‘Free to Ride,’ which features the newly recorded guitar riff played by Stu Hartland

In the late 90’s and early 2000’s, clubs up and down the country were booming with the majority of these tracks, week in, week out, but none more so than Sheffield’s club scene. 

These tunes may have been produced elsewhere, but they were MADE in Sheffield!

Well here it is, my highly anticipated Gatecrasher Wet set from Boxing Day. I stayed faithful to one that I created to reinforce the sound of the brand and one that I am still very proud of today - the Gatecrasher Wet album. The whole atmosphere and vibe on that night was spectacular with the music and production values at optimum level as well as an appreciative crowd who were treated to a full spectrum of lasers. Hard to imagine that these tunes are over 17 years old as they still sound so fresh and crisp, having stood the test of time. Hope you all have fun listening to these tunes as I did playing these out and making history 🙂.

John Lennon - Imagine!! Just saying the artist and track name makes the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. It started out as merely an idea of bringing a timeless, iconic track with global recognition and unique message to a Trance audience. Charlie and I worked tirelessly for a solid 3 weeks in preparation for Gatecrasher's 20th Birthday celebrations. It was initially meant to be a surprise, one-off track and understandably, we had concerns about how it would be received.

Needless to say, we shouldn't have been. By the time my set had finished, I was inundated with questions about this unknown Trance remix of John Lennon - Imagine.

Armin was due to play Creamfields in 2014 and I had only ever played the tune again as an encore track in Liverpool which had generated even further interest. I figured that with the prolific Beatles connection (Cream being a Liverpool based club brand), he might possibly consider supporting. We sent it to him on the Friday of the event and knew that it was late in the day but a good tune is a good tune!! 🙂

The track was one of the highlights of his set and from
that point on, it was featured throughout his Armin Only Intense tours for a solid 2 years from Ultra Miami to ASOT Sydney to Electric Zoo in NYC!! The rest as we can all say is history!

We all grew with the music from 1997-2007 and felt obliged to hold a commemorative party so as to celebrate those many joyous memories experienced at this momentous institution. Gatecrasher has always been about inclusion and was not only a tribute to all our regulars but also to those who never have had the opportunity to experience it first-hand.

In order to make this event unique, I wanted to try something different and completely out of my comfort zone! After many lengthy discussions, I made the conscious decision to go back to back with the entire main room lineup. From early doors until the final tune, everybody who attended was guaranteed a nostalgic, musical journey. 

Post-Republic of Gatecrasher blues and it was really pleasing to have received so many positive and thought provoking comments with regard to how musically diverse it actually was. I wholeheartedly agree and thought it necessary to share these wonderful sets. Just listening back, you'll be really hard pushed to find such a wide range/variety of Trance to encapsulate one night!!!

In order to make this event unique, I wanted to try something different and completely out of my comfort zone! After many lengthy discussions, I made the conscious decision to go back to back with the entire main room lineup. From early doors until the final tune, everybody who attended was guaranteed a nostalgic, musical journey.

Post-Republic of Gatecrasher blues and it was really pleasing to have received so many positive and thought provoking comments with regard to how musically diverse it actually was. I wholeheartedly agree and thought it necessary to share these wonderful sets. Just listening back, you'll be really hard pushed to find such a wide range/variety of Trance to encapsulate one night!!!

Easter brought us the return of the highly anticipated Gatecrasher Laser Unity and for some, there was no resting during that extended bank holiday weekend! Laser Unity showcased a wide assortment of trance such as progressive, uplifting, tech and psy variations synchronized to beautiful, visual extravaganza of fluorescent rays. 

I played in both rooms for around 90 minutes each. I started in the Gatecrasher REBOOTED Arena from 10:30 and despite being early, there was already quite a busy atmosphere on the dancefloor. The momentum really started to progress as each track was played. The energy levels were on full flow at that point with hands in the air action and the chanting of lyrics. Some of the biggest moments throughout this first set was dropping my latest remixes of "The Killers - Mr Brightside" and "Oakenfold - Southern Sun" which received significant attention. 

Fast forward to my 25 Year of Gatecrasher Arena set and it was full steam ahead. After a short break, I was back on the decks for another 90 minutes, showcasing some of the finest select tunage to have graced the brand. Some notable crowd pleasers included "Marino Stephano - Vision Control", "Ratty - Sunrise" and "Warrior - Warrior". 

All in all, a sensational event with two captivating sets in one link representing the authentic sound of Gatecrasher. Guaranteed to have you moving about in no time as we move closer to the Summer!

Gatecrasher's visit to the Coventry Cathedral Ruins to host the latest GC Outside was nothing short of spectacular. This venue was the ideal setting for an outdoor event in conjunction with the Gatecrasher Classical Orchestra and headline DJs as well as being of historical significance.

With the weather at a wonderful 26 degrees for most of the day and the superb Gatecrasher Classical Orchestra showcasing an ensemble of the very best Trance anthems, who else could possibly follow on? 

Well....Jason and I have known each other for far too long!!! :) From early days of DJing to promoting and producing for respective club brands, our paths have frequently crossed. We've always had this friendly rivalry which has seen no end to our capability to deliver some of the most memorable sets on a night! Synergy is a combined effect which is greater than the sum of separate parts which in this case is Scott Bond + JFK.

From the intro tune, I just knew it would be something special. As each track was played, our competitive spirit brought out the very best in us. The music flowed naturally as we were both feeding off the positive energy of the crowd whilst the sweet release of pumping Trance vibrated off the cathedral walls. Personally, those 90 minutes just flew by and we didn't want to stop!

Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time ever, I am pleased to bring you, Scott Bond and JFK back to back!

"Classic Trance". It's such a commonly used label these days especially when it comes to genres, mixes, DJs etc. What is also common in a "classics" mix is the consistent repetition of tunes featured. You've all heard those same tracks on your most recent mixes several times over and whilst we're in lockdown, you also discovered that you heard those very same tunes on a mix CD, 20+ years ago!!! 

Tune selection really is an art and in order to get it right, it requires significant preparation and having the right amount of ingredients. I had a lot of fun rediscovering material for this mix and personally, it has always been about the journey. Therefore, variety is required to aid the listeners on their nostalgic fix with a torrent of dancefloor destroyers to those forgotten treasures which were unfortunately overshadowed at the time.

For the next 3 hours, I'm going to give you all a taste of how I would best define proper, Classic Trance music and it's safe to say that classics shouldn't be confined to just the "bangers". We're going to delve deep and it'll get emotional as we explore different tempos, styles and moods in this first volume.

I've recently been reading up on definitions of Trance music which may sometimes be considered the most ambiguous genre of dance music. "Trance is usually characterised as having anthemic, epic, rifting and psychedelic qualities with the term "Classic" for those songs that would truly describe what Trance was supposed to be."

Whilst I would generally agree with the description, Classics are subjective and it is down to personal preference. Good and bad music is what it has always been about for me. The good music is able to stand the ultimate test of time and even after many years, listeners can still clearly recall that distinct vocal hook or melody in the back of their minds.

I'm pleased to introduce you to the second volume of Classic Trance. I had a lot of fun reliving cherished memories whilst creating this mix during lockdown. The variety of tracks selected worked really well together and from the very start of those 3 hours, it clearly sets the tone of greater things to come. It's like a hypnotic rush of Trance bursting with all that energy and excitement!!
