The first ever mix from the beat loft parties.  

beat is a new experience created by Ralph Lawson & Tom Van Zeller - fusing food and music in one space. bespoke one off venues turned into a bar, restaurant and 
loft party for one or two nights only.  

the first beat was scheduled for march 23rd and sold out very quickly so we added an extra date on march 22nd which also sold out. this mix was recorded live from one of those events.  

I love playing in clubs but in a loft party space the freedom opens up for the dj to play more diverse sounds and people can get down and totally lose themselves in the music in a magical environment.

I don't want to recreate the past and just play old music.  I want to create my own version of the long running loft tradition that started way back with David Mancuso in New York. I also don't take the name in vain.  It is about creating a space and a vibe so people feel like they are entering your house and everyone is open to letting the music take control.  I played a few classics but also there is a lot of new music in the mix and many edits.  special thanks to DJ Butcher for supplying so many great Chopshop edits.   

the first beat events went exactly as we had hoped, they have inspired us to continue the concept.  we'd love you to get involved if this is where your heart is and come and make the next beat events just as good.

Ralph Lawson  - Beat 001 Loft party mix

A mix focusing on the West Coast sound that was huge for me around the early 2000's. Siesta, Tango, Nightshift, Elecktrik Soul & Double Down were pretty much buy on sight. Dubby baselines and loads of percussion were out in force and never failed to move the dance floor, especially at Mint Club when Basics was there.

Not all the artists featured are West Coast as such but they all have "that" sound. You'll hear what I mean.
