“A tribute to Sylvia Plath’s poem, Lady Lazarus, “The Prophet” is told through the eyes of an advanced A.I robot who is “resurrected” like the biblical Lazarus, but this time with a destructive super-intelligence, wreaking havoc upon her human creators. 

‘The Prophet’ petitions for the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence technologies in order to protect human consciousness and our existence as a species. The song is an ominous reminder that if we are not careful, we might find ourselves with a technology that destroys the civilisation that invented it.”

�  About The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara

Hailed as “pioneers of a new form of expression” through the performance of poetry in music, The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara (TCOMAS) are a UK-based duo comprising Daphne Ang (Singapore) and Andrea Papi (Italy) who came together in London in early 2020 to record their debut album, Full Spectrum, which they released on 26 February 2021. 

The duo draws inspiration from many sources stemming from Tool through to Kraftwerk and Russian Circles, as well as absorbing the poetry of Virginia Woolf and Jim Morrison in their lyrics and ‘poetry performance’. TCOMAS's music strives to fill a gap in music by bringing literature and history together into an arena where rock and metal meets electronica.Their musical and lyrical themes are very much rooted in the duo’s interests in classical literature and theatre, as well as in the fields of philosophy, history, and psychology.

// Human Sacrifice
Blending Thrash Metal with Vedic chants and elements of Indian Classical music,  the lyrics draw from an array of ancient and colonial texts, such as the Mayan Codices and Biblical texts, where descriptions of human sacrifice rituals can be found. The track revisits the practice of human sacrifice rituals of the past in order to shed light on modern practices of human sacrifice that still exist today.

// The Album
'Trust No Leaders' is a record that weaves a voyage through heavy metal history — from its roots in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal up until present day, fusing heavy metal with their signature ‘poetry performance’. Set against orchestral and cinematic soundscapes, the record also pays tribute to non-Western musical traditions, including Native American and South American folk music, Vedic chants, and Indo-Persian classical music. The lyrics bring together elements from modern theater, classical Persian poetry, to Jungian Psychology and theology. 

Commenting on the motivation behind Trust No Leaders, 
TCOMAS: "Our inspiration extends beyond musical genres and the confines of discipline.The confluence of influences in our album extend throughout time and across cultures. In retrospect, this really captures our ethos: Look back into the past for insight, and look into the future with foresight. And in doing so, we created something new of our own."

Landing about 15 months after their debut album Full Spectrum, the duo’s sophomore LP expresses a more aggressive side to the band and was recorded last summer at TCOMAS’ studio in Camden Town, London.   

Discussing the new album’s motivation, TCOMAS:
"The current crisis and the events of our time have made it necessary for us to analyse, investigate, and expose the issues in urgent need of systemic change by looking inwards into the human condition. We want the album to be a beacon of hope, for making a future that prioritises people and the environment."

Let's have a drink.
There's nothing to look up to.

You know the wind’ll keep on blowing, the moon will rise each night.
And the sun up there, it’s always gonna shine.
The waves are gonna crash upon the shore, the moths head toward light,
The ivy on the wall is gonna climb. And so, my friend, the passing of the time.

A friend of mine was certain he had found the secret chord.
But every time he played it, it went flat.
But he would not stop trying, play it time and time again.
Then one day he called me for a chat.
He said, “Scott, I can’t keep trying, it’s getting mighty late,
Doncha know I gotta make those dimes.
And I was hoping maybe you could try it on your own.
And help me tame the passing of the time.

You know the wind’ll keep on blowing, the moon will rise each night.
And the sun up there, it’s always gonna shine.
The waves are gonna crash upon the shore, the moths head toward light,
The ivy on the wall is gonna climb. And so, my friend, the passing of the time.

Another friend convinced himself that he knew how to fly.
And he made some wings of promises and hope.
And every time he fell to earth, he’d get back up again’
Certain that he’d found the means to float. 
He said, “Scott, I keep on falling, and the ground is so damned hard,
I hope you can teach me how to climb.
I said, “Friend, I have no answers, I, too, have been scarred, 
By the unrelenting passing of the time.
