Cryptic - Dec 1st 2023 (DJ / Vinyl Set)

This set was first performed on January 1st 2024 in San Francisco at the Breakfast of Champions block party on the Space Cowboys main stage.

A RE:CONSTRUCTED set is a *long* way removed from a standard DJ set. It's a live/hybrid set.

Simon takes hundreds of tracks from his huge library, painstakingly deconstructs them (using Ai if needed to separate elements from the original tracks), and then pieces everything back together to create a hugely emotive and immersive musical story.

He uses Ableton Live and multiple controllers to trigger up to 16 individual channels of audio at any one time during the performance, and also performs live keyboard overdubs. The end result is a hugely addictive, compulsive and compelling blend of music that's often new, often familiar but always utterly unique.

Breakbeat Breakfast Reconstructed - Jan 2024

Yo, let’s get into it — Joit’s “Pushing” ain’t just a track, it’s a whole Berlin back-alley sermon. This joint sounds like it was born in the shadows of Berghain, raised on acid loops and concrete dreams. From the jump, it’s clear: this ain’t no polished pop single. This is raw hustle music, dipped in sweat, smoke, and streetlight reflections.

The beat? Straight menace. It’s got that acid-tinged minimalism, like a techno set gone rogue. You can almost hear the warehouse reverb — like Joit recorded this in a Kreuzberg basement at 4AM, right after the Funktion-One system cooled down. The drums knock like fists on a steel door, and the synths? Cold, metallic, and unforgiving — like winter wind slicing through your hoodie.

Joit steps in with a voice that don’t ask for space — it takes it. His bars are heavy, like bricks in a backpack, and his flow? Relentless. He’s not just rapping — he’s pushing through the static, the silence, the system. Every line feels like it’s been pressure-cooked in real life. No fantasy, no filters — just grind, grit, and get-back energy.

And the vibe? It’s pure club basement — dark, pulsing, and unapologetically underground. This ain’t for the mainstream crowd. This is for the ones who know the side door, who’ve danced ‘til sunrise, who’ve walked home with ringing ears and a head full of thoughts. “Pushing” feels like that moment when the beat drops and the whole room locks in — no phones, no clout, just pure presence.

Lyrically, Joit’s not trying to be flashy — he’s being real. He spits like someone who’s seen both sides of the city — the glitz and the gutter. He’s got that Berlin duality: part philosopher, part street poet. And when he says he’s pushing, you believe it. Not just through the beat — through life, through doubt, through every locked door he’s had to kick open.

The hook? It’s not a singalong — it’s a war cry. It’s for the ones who keep moving when the world tells them to sit still. It’s for the ones who’ve been counted out, but never counted themselves out. It’s for the late-night loners, the studio rats, the dreamers with cracked sneakers and full notebooks.

And let’s not forget the aesthetic. This track feels like a black-and-white photo at night — graffiti walls, flickering streetlamps, and that ever-present hum of bass in the distance. It’s got that acid house soul with hip-hop bones. A rare blend, but Joit pulls it off like he’s been living in both worlds.
