CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, in 2012, 
found a sub-atomic particle that behave’s 
very much like Peter Higgs’ proposed 
Boson. This is evidence of a ‘Higgs Field’, 
which gives mass to all particles. Imagine 
a large ring, inside which two particles are 
smashed intoeach other, and the sub-
atomic particles inside are revealed for a 
short amount of time.

19.Higgs Boson

‘Little Boy’ was a gun triggered Fission 
(atom) bomb dropped by a plane over 
Hiroshima. Inside the bomb, the ‘trigger’ 
shoots a bullet of Uranium-235 into a
‘tamper’ (spheres filled with U-235). This 
collapsed when hit, causing a chain 
reaction, and powerful explosion, ultimately 
killing 129,000 people.

18.The Manhatten Project

Both proposed the existence of quarks, a 
‘point particle’. MIT-SLAC fired electrons
 at protons and observed how the 
electrons bounced off. This was due to 
point-like particles inside the protons.

17.Gell - Mann:Zweig

Developed an equation which predicted 
antiparticles. Went on to assert that every 
particle has a mirror-image antiparticle, 
with opposite charge. There may
even be a mirror universe of anti-matter!

16.Dirac

‘Events that occur at the same time for 
one observe could occur at a different 
time for another’. Imagine a clock circling 
another,clock at speed. If the moving clock 
experiences less gravity, it’s time is slower.

15.Einstein

Developed the ‘Uncertainty Principle’, 
where we cannot measure the position an 
momentum of a particle with absolute 
precision. By the time you measure the 
spatial position of them, they are in a 
different place.

14.Heisenberg

Proposed a Solar System-like model of the 
atom, where electrons can only gain and lose 
energy by from one allowed orbit to another, 
absorbing or emitting electromagnetic radiation 
in the process.

13.Bohr

Conducted the ’Gold Foil Experiment’, where 
he saw the scattering of helium nuclei from 
gold foil. Deduced that the majority of mass in 
gold atoms is held in the nucleus, which cause 
the alpha-particles to bounce off.

12.Rutherford

Invented the ‘Plum Pudding’ model. Electrons 
are randomly spread out among a ‘sphere of 
uniform electrification.
