This is a piece that I really enjoyed working on, combining elements of Jazz, Orchestral and Breakbeat with live finger drumming and horn solos I played on trumpet and trombone.

Prickly Progressions attempts to reconcile the many disparate facets of exaltron- electronic and experimental music infused with funk, hip hop and dance rhythms, cinematic textures from my film scoring work, and unique instruments like the guitarviol that I often play with a custom motorized bow that I developed called the Rotobow.
Stylistically this EP sees a return to my roots in the weirdness and experimentalism of illbient, downtown music, trip-hop, glitch and electro with heavy influence from artists like Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Amon Tobin, and Flying Lotus.

The PTA parents are trying to raise money for a new funk ensemble at the local high school, so they've put together their richest buttery bass confections in this generous pack of all original basslines! 

The free Intro Pack contains 10 of the best basslines, while the Premium Pack contains 50 original basslines and 15 variations, including different performance styles- picked, fingered, slapped- as well as rhythmic variations and effects like fuzz and filter envelope (wah).  

All basslines are recorded from performances on a Fender Precision Bass, as well as a handful from an Ibanez Hollow Body 7-string, and some upright sounds recorded on a guitarviol. The basslines are fed through different amp models and effects with minimal amounts of compression, ready to drop into any production as is, or add additional effects as inspired. 

These basslines pay tribute to some of the best bassists and artists in the funk, RnB, hip-hop and rock world, taking inspiration from Tame Impala, Kool and the Gang, Thundercat, Carol Kaye,  LCD Soundsystem, MGMT, Beastie Boys, and many others. 

All basslines are royalty free, have fun and get inspired to use them in any commercial productions.

Extended version of Byrd in Hand, a modern jazz piece with trumpet, sax, piano, drums and bass.

Byrd in Hand

In this piece I indulge some 80s nostaglia, paying tribute to the amazingly innovative and influential sounds of German electro outfits like Kraftwerk and their North American counterparts such as Afrika Bambaataa, as well as slicker composers like Jan Hammer (who composed the iconic Miami Vice theme in addtion to many other shows and movies). Plenty of synths with sputtering and cascading arpeggios and drum machine polyrhythms, pretty much no "real instruments" at all.

My first "pure" orchestral piece using an amazing new sound library from EastWest. This is an Eastern European-flavored composition with an obvious debt to Russian composers like Prokofiev, albeit with a decidedly cinematic direction. The third section takes a left turn with a drum machine providing a rhythmic backdrop for a solo violin melody.
