After a bit of a break from solo music, "Vol.1" was released in 2011. The 10 track EP marked the first time a project from Scott Free had been fully produced "in-house". Every instrumental on "Vol.1", as well as the mixing & mastering were handled by Scott Free & frequent collaborator Pooh Sniper. 
Although the project was a departure from previous long running albums that Free had released in the past, it was in some ways a return to his roots. From the retrospective views of his teenage years on "Put It Up" to the almost spoken word vibe of "Poetic Enuff", "Vol.1" was a resurrection of the honest & emotional emcee that most fans were used to hearing on a Scott Free album. 
Not content with simply relying on his regular formula, Free attempted to create more mainstream & upbeat songs with tracks like "Techno Ish" & "Buss It WIde Open". The self produced, "Testify", gave a glimpse of the building orchestra-tic beats Free would use on later projects.   
"Vol.1" was originally released as a free download. In many ways it proved to be a creative jump start to the Kentucky artist & paved the way for albums like "FLY" a year later. 

01. Put It Up [Vol.1]

Fresh from releasing their collaborative mixtape, "No Country 4 Grown Men [NC4GM]", Scott Free & Pooh Sniper returned to the studio to begin work on what would become "Pray 4 Rain". Attempting to incorporate the same elements that made past joint projects like "Russian Roulette" & "NC4GM" special, the duo quickly completed what would become the groundwork for the album. 
During another studio session months later the pair scraped a large portion of the tracks they had recorded, and began working on new music which would give "Pray 4 Rain" a more appealing sound & show their individual maturities as artists. The decision proved worthwhile and the end result was an excellent companion piece to the "grown-folks music" they had introduced on "NC4GM". 
Whereas past releases like 2007's "Russian Roulette" showed two artists nearly at their breaking point & questioning their own mortality, "Pray 4 Rain" found the emcees now pushing 30 years-old & confident in their musical direction & abilities. The Kentucky prescription epidemic anthem, "Bangin", showed the downfall of drug abuse told by two men who had seen firsthand the dangers of the lifestyle, while songs such as "America" & "Cell Don't Roam" continued to stay true to their country roots.
The retrospective lyrics in tracks like "Regrets" & "C U Again" solidified the country cousin's claim that they were the new grown folks of Kentucky hip hop, while assuring longtime listeners that they were more focused than ever on perfecting their craft despite any and all obstacles. Their love/hate relationship with hip hop was addressed in tracks like "U Luv'd Me". And they both showed that they weren't taking themselves too seriously through songs like the auto-tuned, "Porchlight", in which Sniper's love song beginning gives way to Free's almost comical, serial killer, scorned lover ending.
Not to rely to heavily on serious content, Pooh Sniper & Scott Free continue to keep speakers bumping with tracks like "Adios", "Make The Block Rumble", & the stripped down breakbeat of "Evertime". Unsatisfied by simply penning, mixing, & mastering the 13 track album, Sniper & Free also served as the only two beat creators on the project. They preceded the albums release with the release of their first official video for "Bangin". The viral clip struck a nerve with local fans & helped to secure considerable local buzz for "Pray 4 Rain". As the final track states, this duo could prove to be the "Worst Nightmare" for competing Kentucky emcees.

"Vol.2" is a mixtape from Scott Free released in late 2011. The project contains various collaborations & B-Sides, as well as freestlyles referred to as "Lyrical Exercises". It was originally released as a free download to accompany Scott Free's "Vol.1" EP. 
"Vol.2" consists largely of tracks which Free considered quality music that either didn't fit the feel of the preceding EP, were recorded for other mixtapes, or unused tracks recorded during the making of "Vol.1" & "Pray 4 Rain". Occasional verses or ideas were reused or carried over to other tracks due to instrumental clearance or creative direction. As his last release of the year, "Vol.2" would serve as the street release to stir buzz concerning Scott Free's other projects from 2011 while also making sure that certain songs weren't shelved and forgotten before the years end.
