This one's my entry for the final round of the latest SpinTunes competition (spoiler: I didn't win 🥲).

The challenge was to write a song with lyrics only using the most common 1,000 words in the English language. (https://splasho.com/upgoer5/phpspellcheck/dictionaries/1000.dicin). It's tougher than you think!

The words are inspired by a recent catchup with a good friend in the US. He signed off by reminding me to "hug my kids", which struck me as great life advice from a fellow parent. My kids are 13 and 11, so their best hugging days are behind them. In fact, sometimes they’ll straight-up tell me to go away! But I went and hugged them all the same. Writing the chorus also made me think about how you experience time as a parent. The first few months and years go by in slow motion, and then suddenly they’re racing through secondary school, perhaps university, and (with any luck) out of your immediate orbit.
