Belgium-based producer Poldoore has been making his mark on the electronic music scene since 2013. Mixing samples and live instrumentation into a dynamic blend that sits somewhere between moody laid-back and swirling upbeat, he has been featured at festivals like Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival, Dour Festival, Tomorrowland, has released with a number of respected labels like Chinese Man Records, Cold Busted, Darker than Wax, Lowtemp, Nowadays Records, and has done remixes for the likes of Emancipator, Wax Tailor, Talib Kweli, Declaime, and Selah Sue.

‘Wayfare’, Poldoore’s debut release with eclectic indie & electronic label Future Archive Recordings, is focused on live instrumentation and an overall organic feel. The four track EP has a timeless and classic sound, weaving in and out of, and fusing, chillout, downtempo, jazz, and lounge genres. 

‘Alfama’ – the 1st and only single will be released via Future Archive Recordings on 24 July 2020, followed by ‘Wayfare’ on 14 August 2020.

Following 2018’s “Pathways” Jim Coles aka Om Unit aka Philip D Kick adds some shine and sparkle to his already near perfect and persistent formula. Coles remains dedicated to blurring the lines and joining the dots. As we continue . . .

‘Drips’ sets the pace and opens the flood gates with a flowing groove and lingering bass womps like condensation off a low ceiling. ‘160909313’ steamrolls through with a constant Turbo drum machine drive accelerated by a non stop rolling bass riff. The doors are well and truly blown off in ‘Funk 160’ as a planet rocking breakbeat and infectious chord stabs set the pace with confidence and class. Balmy pads caress a lazy groove in ‘Summer Moods’ and conjure feelings of long evenings and ever lasting sunsets. The Riviera is all bit crushed pads and elite level breakbeat science while you enjoy the passing vistas. ’Clouds’ brings this episode to a close with a smooth glide through the stratosphere and beyond with 4/4 kicks and luscious bass arp.

'This record for me reflects the ongoing conversation between cultures and styles where jungle meets footwork meets techno, 3 cultures that share more in common than perhaps people realise, and for me this is more of a in-depth exploration for example of sonic tropes more prevalent in the world of detroit techno than other previous records. 'Clouds' and '160909313' for example being somewhat of an homage to Detroit, the birthplace of techno, yet another black music that changed the world.' - Philip D Kick / Om Unit

EA Review: Fiend - Afterlife EP (Ft. Mystic State)

For the final song on CKRA012, Fiend collaborates with the minds behind The Chikara Project to reveal the emotional garage-esque banger, “Goodnight, Yellow.” Both artists’ talents shine through in this masterful production that is nothing short of mesmerizing. Together, Fiend and Mystic State paint a beautiful soundscape that leaves the listener swimming in bass as crystalline drums pierce through the clouds of reverb like icebergs in the fog of night. The track title becomes apparent via the meticulous sample selection. The quotes provoke profound feelings of nostalgia which are then washed over by cleansing waves of sub frequencies and euphoric synth chords. “Goodnight, Yellow” serves as a proper final farewell for the EP while establishing itself as a tune whose replay value will undoubtedly be capitalized on by fans of the release for ages to come.

Coming in hot with a double sided rhythmic saunter, Metta and Entangled Mind mingle their sonic musings on the Friendz EP. The two tracks "Friendz" and "Calm Before The Storm" dance with individual gaits and mutual palettes, bringing a honed in collection of textures, tones, and movements to their zenith. 

The suite of sharp percussive samples and audio slices bounces particulate effects between crisp transients, and each successive bar and phrase rolls into shuffles, turnarounds, and juggled rhythms. Warped, buoyant synthesis wraps both polar ends of the frequency spectrum with warm note relationships and sapient melodies, mediating a velvet vibe across the EP. 

If silk-laden dives into texture and harmony is your flavor of choice, you'll be hard pressed to find the fault lines in the Friendz EP.
