The world outside had finally gone quiet—just the hum of streetlights and the occasional whisper of a passing car. A soft crackle filled the room—that beautiful static that sounded like the past clearing its throat. Then the bass crept in, warm as a blanket. A voice followed, rich and smoky. 

He swayed before he realized he was doing it, caught in the groove. The candle flames swayed with him, shadows drifting across the walls like they were part of the rhythm. The music curled around him, slow and sweet, filling the corners of the room, filling the empty spaces inside him.

Minutes stretched into something dreamy. Each song blended into the next until it was just him, the candles, and the voice on the record stitching together every memory he’d ever hidden in the dark.

By the time the final track spiraled out and the needle tapped the label, he wasn’t tired anymore. Just full—of sound, of warmth, of something like peace.

He flipped the record over, smiled to himself, and let the night keep going.
