This is the story of an obsession that became reality. “1994”. Just a date, and almost ten minutes of solar faces and lost bodies that move as in weightlessness, in a place which is nowhere and could be anywhere. While an obsessing soundtrack, whole of throbbing basses, cold layers of synthesizers and frozen whispers, finishes suspending time and leads to imagine more than to understand. Maud Geffay to whom we are indebted of the design of this beautiful cinematographic and musical UFO, was there, she can be seen briefly, certainly filmed without her knowing. Privileged witness of what from a distance can resemble a wild feast, an improvised“rave-party” in the Carnac dunes, and many other things that you could imagine, even if with the years we cannot really tell... Nevertheless, Maud remembers having ended up there with friends, after an agitated night spent in a “rave” near Saint Nazaire, at a time when being young and alive meant not being afraid of driving 400 kilometers on a single week end to party. Years later, these forgotten clichés kick at life and in Maud’s imagination. Several persons around her refer to this Super 8 movie with awkward and trembling frames, where she appears...She goes for these forgotten and lost images in the limbo of a now collective memory, finds their author, Christophe Turpin, now a renowned director. “The first time that I finally had between my hands a DVD where had been transferred hardly an hour of images filmed and edited in a rather rough way, I have been very touched by what I ever saw for the first time in 20 years or so, since 1994 in fact...Curiously, it is not the nostalgia that emanated from these images which questioned me, but rather the incredible sensation of freedom which escaped from these faces, these bodies, but also from this abandoned, almost unreal place...” It was finally Benoit Hické, a programmer of “La Gaîté Lyrique”, who incidentally heard of the project, who gave her a leg up by offering her to present her version of the movie for the first edition of festival F.A.M.E. last march. Three weeks left to cut, edit and reassemble the whole thing, but above all to compose a main theme (the three other parts of the original track are pieces written previously with Sébastien Chenut, with whom she constitutes the duo “Scratch Massive) before the fateful date. Since then, “1994”lives another life thanks to the label Pan European which had the good idea of editing under DVD format (the movie) and vinyl (the four titles of the soundtrack). “1994”, a deranged and degendered object, which avoids the pitfall of a documentary or the aestheticism of a video clip, to get closer to an experimental video by digging most profoundly into our intimacy, and therefore in our individual and collective history. “Garden of Love” is 5 years old. 5 years that his songs have accompanied us, like evidence. The 4th album of Scratch Massive entered our intimacy, met its audience, a large audience, and the passage of time has succeeded. His romantic and dark compositions - we can cite "Last Dance", "Sunken" or "Dancer in the Dark" - have become classics that we have heard as soundtracks on feature films, series and fashion shows. “Last Dance” sung by Maud Geffray has become a cult and transgenerational title by illustrating the first kiss of Elliot and Lucas, the two heroes of the teen series “Skam”.

To celebrate the 5th anniversary of "Garden Of Love", Scratch Massive offers us here a Deluxe version containing 5 unreleased tracks, recorded in Los Angeles during the album's studio sessions. There we find the majestic “Love Streams” Feat Grindi Manberg in its sung and instrumental version. Then come 2 unreleased demos of "Pray" by the group, and finally "Hollywood Boulevard", a nighttime ballad in a fantasy L.A., the city where the album "Garden of Love" was thought and composed.

This Deluxe anniversary version skilfully completes the group's 4th LP and makes us wait before the next one, scheduled for 2024.
