It’s a sad story to tell, so get some tissue . . . you'll need it.
On north Vancouver Island there was one of the greatest Canadian Bands no one ever heard of. They never played outside their tiny log cabin on Cowichan Lake in the Cowichan Valley, eh. They were called The Streisands.
One day, they recorded 5 songs on a whim. We are not sure what types of instruments they played or even what their music sounded like.
They sent off a copy to the Glasgow Music Fest. A long month went by. Then a float plane landed next to their dock.
It was an agent sent from Glasgow to fetch them. Their music so impressed the producers they sent a large float plane to pick them up with their instruments and the recording they had made.
They grabbed a few things they knew they would need . . . Mukluks, a few beaver pelts, smoked salmon, their instruments, the sole recording of their music, 5 pounds of homegrown merry jane . . . and took off.
It was about an hour into the flight when the airport received a distress call from their aircraft.
May Day, May Day, said the voice. Our plane has run out of fuel and got hit by lightening after running into a flock of Canada Geese. We are going DOWN!
The last thing the radio tower heard was them screaming as the plane plunged into the ocean. Someone asked, who was that screaming? It was The Streisands.
We are their tribute band.
Since no one living today has ever heard their music, we’ve come up with what it must have sounded like.
And, in honor of the band, we've taken their name . . .
