LOVE'S DREAM

Finally back after a several-week hiatus due to my move. Definitely some hard losses these past weeks, with absolute legends Pharoah Sanders and Ramsey Lewis passing away. Ramsey Lewis's records were some of the first jazz and funk records I purchased, and I highly recommend his catalog - it's still pretty affordable, and just as beautiful and funky as many of the "rare" and pricey records from other artists. Pharoah Sanders' records are getting a bit more pricey these days, but most are still attainable - and there are some good represses out there. Absolutely beautiful music. Rest in Power to both these legends, I'm eternally grateful for what they brought to all of us.

I tried to intersperse some interview clips of each of them within this mix, which I did live on Twitch a few days ago.

Bay area's Justin Torres is a true 60s/70s soul music historian.  The Break Up Letters, originally posted online in 2008 by Good Records NYC, is a heart wrenching mix of rare soul and funk. Also worth noting is that portions of this mix were culled from raw reels rescued from the vaults of famed Berkeley, CA distributor/record shop Music City. So there are songs on here that are completely unknown and unavailable on vinyl… The absolutely killer funk-psych burner “Choirs In My Teardrops” is perhaps the most criminal example of a record that never was, but Real Heads will notice the DJ Shadow-remixed “This Time” (here as “Untitled”) by, simply, “Joe”. This mix is the first appearance of the track and the Genesis of Shadow’s piece.

Inspired by the London Jazz Dance scene & the local cosmic music phenomenon I started a club night called VIBE KLUB back in 1991 with Marc Frank (lesgammas, 7 Samurai,panoptikum,Dubben etc..) 
& HP (Dubben) in our hometown Augsburg in South Germany. 
A weekly Saturday night  @ Kerosin which went on until 2005....we were spinnin classic breaks,rare grooves,jazz, old school hip hop & had an neverending hunger for  the kind of lush, dreamy 70´s fusion sound that you can hear in this mix. These are the roots of the later german Nu Jazz sound sported by Rainer Trüby, Theo Thönessen, Heiko Jahnke, Rosko ,Claas , Jürgen ,Alex, Michael Rütten, Emanuela de Luca ,Mark Bohlman,Rob Spoljaric ,Spinning Wheel etc...
