Tyrant makes his Durkle Disco debut with hard hitting UK Funky banger ‘Bristol Riddim’. The London producer & DJ has had a busy 2023, with a string of releases on the Nasty Bros label and 1Forty seeing him gain regular radio support on the likes of BBC Radio 1 & Rinse FM – including a recent first Radio 1 play for ‘Bristol Riddim’ on the BBC Introducing Show.

‘Bristol Riddim’ blends skippy cowbells, mystic strings and a seriously weighty bassline to effortlessly step into the lineage of Durkle classics like Kouslin & Logan’s ‘Bad’ and Fonzo & Riko Dan’s ‘Bushmaster’. If there’s any MC to sprinkle some additional West Country flavour to the track – it had to be Slowie. The Bristol MC veteran, a long-time Durkle associate, and, like Tyrant, member of the Nasty Bros collective, Slowie showcases his inimitable Bristolian style on a short but sweet hook.

‘Bristol Riddim’ isn’t the first time Tyrant has drawn musical inspiration from Durkle Disco’s home; 2022’s ‘Turbo Island’ smashed up dances and festivals across the UK, even being selected as one of Jaguar’s best tracks of the year on Radio 1. An accomplished DJ himself – with a residency on Subtle Radio, as well as previous appearances on Kiss Fresh, Rinse FM, Rinse France, and Reprezent – Tyrant’s ear for beats also translates to his production, with ‘Bristol Riddim’ being the latest in an increasingly stacked discography of heavyweight UK Funky.

Place: Chile is a collection of producers living in Chile. The tracks are donated and all proceeds go to a local environmental group in that area.

The Air Texture label's Place project moves to Chile, to commission a new compilation curated by Chilean cultural agent and force Pía Sotomayor, aka Kleine Pia.

Drawing a singular geography like the territory we inhabit, Place - Chile compiles the work of artists as diverse as they are complex, some with extensive experience, or those who are just entering this adventure. Creating rhythmic patterns linked to the dance floor, moving from house, techno, and broken rhythms.

Some are perfectly elaborated, and profound, others with a raw and spontaneous cut but all of them with a sound that translates the identity of each of the artists present in this compilation, just like an intrincated map of multiple generations found in this selection.

exclusive | NachoMarco - 909 File 4 | Chiwax

Valencia's Nacho Marco has an incredibly impressive back catalogue, with releases on brilliant labels including Freerange, Plastic City, Lazy Days, Ovum, We Play House and his own excellent Loudeast imprint too. Now added to the list is the irrepressible Chiwax, with his “The 909 Files" EP. 

Each track is simply titled 'File 1' through to “File 4“, so let's kick things off in the usual order. "File 1“ is a powerhouse of percussion and keys, with an almost Reese-esque bassline rumbling underneath. The weight of the kicks and the metronomic rattle of the rimshots thunders the track along, making this a very impressive opener. 

“File 2" slows the BPM down a few notches, the drums are again super-heavy (being from the 909, as the EP title gives away), but this time the keys take a softer approach, with glorious floating pads underpinning the mellow mood here. A wonderfully woozy closer to the A-side. 

Flipping over for “File 3“ on the B-side, the 909 is joined by our old friend the M1 bassline, with clipped vox parts adding to the energy pulsing through the track. Swinging along in a fashion reminiscent of classics such as  Kerri Chandler et'al, this is a superb straight-up warm house jam. 

Rounding the EP off, “File 4’"is built around a stabby church organ riff which nags away throughout the track, the punchy percussion and tinkling chords coming together in a swirl of joyous depth for the dancefloor. The bassline chugs away with its neat bounce, echoing the thump of the unmistakable 909 kicks, closing the EP off in the style it maintains throughout, namely exquisite dancefloor-driven house music which has a real timeless quality.

Ayahuasca (also called Yage) is a tea used by shamans in South America to enter a trance. Ayahuasca is considered a medicinal brew (an herbal tea), where one of the basic components comes from the psychoactive plant Banisteriopsis caapi. The Banisteriopsis plant grows mainly in the Amazon. Ayahuasca tea also contains the Shakropanga or Shakrona plant.

The resulting drink is pharmacologically complex and is used in shamanic, ethnomedical, religious and spiritual healing practices. Ethnobiologists have listed 200-300 different plants used by Ayahuasca shamans in the special herbal brew.

Ayahuasca tea contains the psychoactive substance dimethyltryptamine (DMT).
