Introducing Akira Knightley (UK/Japan)🌀

A drum and bass DJ who discovered his love for the genre as a teenager seshing in the London squat rave scene. Akira’s knowledge of all things 170 BPM+ continued to deepen in his later years studying in Bristol - cutting his teeth on parties at legendary venues like Black Swan, Blue Mountain and Lakota. 

Having played events at Avalon Cafe and Four Quarters with guest mixes featured on Vandelay Radio and No Persona, Akira Knightley is making a name through his take on dnb. From smooth liquid funk and minimal tech to chaotic jungle and face melting half-time, expect a set that will shift through the gears of the full dnb spectrum.

Here we present his opening set from our August 2023 forest rave, ahead of his SDC club debut at Phonox. A few words from the man himself about this mix: 

>>> Akira:

"This mix is a bit of a love letter to the autonomic sound, a niche, atmospheric style of dnb pioneered by dBridge and Instra:mental in the mid 2000s.

I really wanted to do dive into the deeper end of Drum and Bass, with a prevalent ethereal tone to match the forest settings of the SDC parties. As a DJ, I love to dig up 'hidden gem' type tunes and try and make something cohesive that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Above all else though, I just wanted to craft a mix that sounds really pretty to listen to. Although there are a few grotty surprises peppered throughout to keep listeners on their toes also..."
