"This was my second year in a row playing at The Cityfox Odyssey in which the first year I played was in the downtempo/ambient room.  When I wasn't djing at the event on New Years 2018 I was spending the majority of my time in Gunita's Tavern. So when New Years Eve 2019 came around I naturally wanted to be part of the Gunita's Tavern because of it's really heady vibe and underground feel that was a nice departure from the large rave it was a part of. It was also a place where you could unwind from the large crowds and the odds were better that you would run into a friend or more to have a good conversation while enjoying a drink. 

Rave culture had a lot of momentum coming into 2020 with optimism and excitement that had been building for most of that decade which resulted in more festivals and events due to popular demand. So ending the decade and bringing in a new one at The Cityfox Odyssey because Cityfox had been producing top notch events during this time period was special. I played during New Years day from 6-8pm while Jamie Jones and then Ame & Dixon were playing in the main room so the vibe was thick in the building. The crowd was in prime time form and they brought the energy that was the catalyst for my set. I instantly felt comfortable in the surroundings as a result and spent most of my time after my set in the tavern soaking up the vibes from the dj's sets that played after me. I stayed until the end in the tavern like I did the year before to conclude another memorable New Years day at Gunita's Tavern at The Cityfox Odyssey."

It must be quite obvious by now that the Afternoon Umbrella Friends LOVE celebrating the holidays. That's why we're bringing you a very special episode of the Overcast - a fabulously festive disco set brought to us by one of San Diego's greatest tastemakers, Jimbo James.

We sometimes think of Jimbo as a machine, a man with a plan and a team that is in the process of building a media empire right out of San Diego. House heads can hardly browse SoundCloud these days without running into a Music is 4 Lovers feature, or five. The amount of content that is distributed under the platform that he's built is remarkable - there's the numerous quality mix series', the record label, the livestreams, the blog, and of course their Lovelife event series. Despite working with big names all around the world, he also keeps close tabs on everything going down in San Diego, and has made MI4L an avenue for our local artists to be seen by the rest of the world. San Diego is lucky to have Jimbo James, and we're lucky to get to work with him and to be able to call him a friend!
