Sean Kerman is a genre fluid DJ. Through his understanding
of music as a universal language Sean takes an audience on
an unimaginable musical journey. Sometimes, starting with
deep melodic landscapes which traverse the tougher
terrains of deep bass-filled house and tech-house, he
explores the deeper side of progressive and techno-esque
landscapes at altitude, with intermittent bouts of
break-beat turbulence. Smoothing down with atmospheric
and melodic transient techno, the destination is not always
construed.
With a DJ career of 37-years, Sean started his training with
the help of Frank Melman at the age of 15 at the infamous
Phase 2 [under-18] nightclub in Durban. Frank inspired and
taught him the ropes of mixing. From Phase 2 he tuned his
skill at various clubs in the early years such as Millionaires
Club, CC's and The Basement. He worked with promoters in
‘95 and successfully hosted Vitual Rush 1 and Virtual Rush 2
5. His company, Dusk to Dawn, and the 3rd Base crew
hosted Eternal Harmony and Thermal Equinox at Shed 17 in
Durban. Andy Passman [UK] and Malcom Duffy [UK]
headlined at the events which attracted over 5,000 pax a
night.
Sean was resident DJ at AD nightclub in ’95, from where he
moved to Hereford in the UK in ’97 to play at Naughty but
Nice and The Oblivion bar in London. On his return to
South Africa in ’99, he played and lectured for the Epic
Magazine DJ School at Crash Nightclub in Durban. From
Durban, Sean headed to Cape Town as resident DJ at Sliver
/ Confession in Green Point whilst playing guest slots
around the city.
On his return to Johannesburg in 2003, still keeping his
earphones on, Sean decided to explore his other passion –
food – being a founder of Clico Boutique Hotel he moved on
to start several businesses such as Mish Mash, Ritual Food
Bar, Ritual Café and, at present, Radical Cuisine.
He returns to the stage today answering a deep shamanic
call from Spirit to inspire the younger generations with his
eclectic taste in music, sharing the nuances he was taught
from a very young age mixing music on vinyl. Through his
obsession with music, Sean’s music taste and skill remains
honed and in tune.
