011 of the JKG mix series features Shael from Winnipeg. We first were put onto the deep, groovy sounds of Shael at Basscoast Festival; her daytime set was perfect for the moment with smiles on the dance floor all around. A few years later the day has finally arrived that we are hosting Shael on our JKG mix series. As avid house heads ourselves, we certainly vibe with her.

Residing in the heart of the Canadian prairies in Winnipeg MB, Shael self described as a passionate DJ who loves spreading joy through music and bringing people together to dance; heck YES! She's an established figure of the Western Canadian underground dance scene and has brought her distinct style of DJing to dance floors in her hometown and beyond, for over two decades. A house music specialist, expect to hear anything from deep/disco/classic house, to garage and breakbeats, all expertly programmed to reflect the energy of any crowd or setting.

In addition to DJing, Shael actively promotes in Winnipeg as part of the Proper YWG crew whose events showcase local underground talent. This summer you can find Shael performing at Bass Coast Festival (www.basscoast.ca), MEME Festival (www.memetic.ca), and Bring Your Love Festival (www.bringyourlove.ca) as well as several additional events in her hometown to be announced.

Shael describes, “I put together this mix to showcase the vibe that’s presently speaking to me, deep and groovy house with a little bomp, meshed with slow n lush breakbeats. An ode to summer nights and early morning sunrises, these sounds give me all the feels! All of these tracks are available to buy on Bandcamp :) Cheers! xo” 
 
And what better a way to embrace the sunny months of June than a wonderfully housey mix from one of Western Canada’s finest house music selectors, Shael.

INNEZZ is a Vancouver-based DJ whose sound blends hypnotic minimal, acid-driven grooves, and off-kilter club rhythms. Of North African descent and shaped by time in Vancouver and New York, she moves between peak-time energy and after-hours depth with a focus on intimacy and flow. She has played festivals like Bass Coast and Snowbombing, shared lineups with artists including Ladymonix, Jimpster, Parris, and Evan Baggs, and hosts Azul Radio on Bside Radio, a monthly show dedicated to deep, instinct-led selections.

INNEZZ notes, “this one’s basically my love letter to the Summer... opening with some breezy ocean air before slipping into a groove that just keeps getting sweatier. Easily one of my favourite mixes I’ve done, and it’s exactly where my house sound has been living this season.”

We’ve had the pleasure of watching Innezz carve out her path in the scene, and it’s been inspiring to see her growth as both an artist and a rising force in Vancouver’s DJ community. Her sound and energy behind the decks is inspiring, and we couldn’t be prouder to showcase her talent. We’re thrilled she’s joined our mix series; this one will not disappoint.

JKG 019 - INNEZZ


Wicked Woods Music Festival is such a special place. I can not express the gratitude I have for being invited to play, and return for another year. Drum & Bass is therapy for me, so closing out festival season with a dnb set truly made so much sense, and fulfilled me in a way I don't know if anything else quite could. The weekend as a whole conspired the most beautiful connections with everyone I had hoped to see and more. 

The organic nature of my growth as a DJ continues to prove myself, to myself. I feel that little level up in self confidence every time I take the stage and it is both gratifying and humblin - because I am just an ordinary person, trying to do extraordinary things. My intentions are to spread emotion, help you experience feelings and hold space for you to let it all out on the dance floor. It is a complete honor to take the wheel and steer the ship for that hour in time and I just really thank you all for being a part of that, in one way or another. 

The support within the community is something else as well. I can feel it strongly in every festival I get involved with and it is important to me to carry that forward and reciprocate in whatever way I can. I am so grateful for the people that see something in me and give me the chance to do my thing. 

This set, like all of my sets, is a piece of me. From my heart. From my soul. Music speaks through me in a subconscious way that I learn more about myself and the place I am in at the time. It is beautiful memoir to document a very special moment in time, with very beautiful people involved. I see your faces in that crowd. I see your smiles, your tears, your signs, your totems, your love for those around you. It is just the most beautiful thing. So recording and sharing is the least I can do, to show my appreciation for you out there. Even if you weren't in the crowd - I know you're listening, and it means something to me. ✨️

Love of the music keeps PurpleTeeth in a constant state of evolution, with no two sets ever being the same. Notable gigs include: Paradise Music Festival, Mayo Beach Party, Chasing Sunsets festival, Halloween Shindigs, Disco Fundraisers, or the basement at the Afters. Although, comfortable playing at peak hours PurpleTeeth shines brightest deep into the night - always able to  pull the dance floor back from the brinks with his smooth style.
