A mix of tunes that I've been fond of late.  The mix begins with Payfone's sun-kissed Night in Sant Celoni, moves through the Staple Sisters take on Talking Heads, past Ibibio Sound Machine and the timeless Eliete Negreiros, singing as prettily as the sky is blue on sunny day. A few more of my favourite things follow: a bit of Yorkshire Yacht Rock, some Gypsy Jazz, and then a dash across the Mediterranean to Algiers and the haunting -- there's no other word -- vocals of Souad Massi.  

A French funk version of Metronomy France Joli sings in Spanish and an edit of my own, 

I will buy a drink to anyone, apart from Ruya Yuksel who spotted it, who can name the guitarist. There's something of a clue to the identity in track 2.

All done with the utmost love and respect to the original recording of Joan Baez's Manhã de Carnaval (Carnival Morning). The song is itself the cover of a song by Brazilian composer Luiz Bonfá, which first appeared in the 1959 Portuguese-language film Orfeu Negro. It went on to become one of the first Bossa Nova compositions to gain popularity outside Brazil.
