We are not worthy! A big scalp for us here at Monologues as we invite one of our all-time favourite production outfits to contribute to the series. This '92-'24 retrospective from one of the mightiest names in house features unreleased Gabriels + Usher remix exclusives and a special edit of 'Lazy' exclusive to this mix. No-one does chunky house music better and we're delighted to have these history-makers be part of our long-running series. Strap yourself in for a tonking hour.

*How would you describe your sound?*

Our sound is for the dancefloor. Pure and simple. Whether that's the back room of a pub in Colnbrook or a huge mega tech rave in Mexico.

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?* 

I guess it's all sorts of music that's influenced us over the years. Going way back to tribal music through Blues, jazz, rnb, reggae, soul, disco, house, techno, classical etc etc. We always go back to early house stuff if we're ever stuck in the studio. Just get back to the raw basics and go again!

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

This '92224' mix is basically a snap shot of some of the stuff that we, with Ashley for a huge chunk of it, have done or been involved with over the years. From our very first production together ('Muzik Xpress') bang up to the minute with our soon-to-be-released Gabriels remix. Getting this mix together has made me appreciate just how much we've done and makes me feel very proud of what 3 lads from west London have achieved musically. Listening back to it there's definitely a thread that runs through this 32 years of music and I think that hopefully, you can hear those answers to the first 2 questions contained within.

Here's a lovely mix from Brighton's original crew of left field Balearic deviants Soft Rocks, which came free & recorded for Berlin's deluxe street-wear store Firmament, & came with a Boy's Own t-shairt I bought from in 2009. 
On the reverse of the CD sleeve it came in it says that it was "For that night in East Grinstead" ...that will be the in-famous Boy's Own party they threw in a field in East Grinstead back in '89? The one where Barry Mooncult was dressed as a pantomime cow then... : ) 
Expect some classic Balearic tracks in a mix that digs a little deeper (as Soft Rock's do) at times, with some of the more obscure tracks to be found of that '89 era.

New year, more music new to the show before, same rock solid vibe. 

Hour one 'mix up' does exactly what it says on the tin. Bumping electronic beats from Detroit's Filthiest, rolling afro beats from Tony Allen and Theo Parish, a bit of RnB from Bobbi Storm, some vintage 2 step, and some fantastic reworks. Plus if you think Imagination's Just Illusion is good, wait till you check out Barry Biggs' version. 

We go into hour two getting our chug on, before we go super deep into the 'mix down'.  It all ends up in a piano crescendo, and an awesome feel good chuggy psychedelic rock breakdown, (trust me...)

It is not everyday we are sent a 5 hour mix from someone we have asked to join our Phonica mix series; but when Sheffield & Manchester legend Luke Una sends one… you have to jump straight into it! Having become first recognised in the late 80’s and 90’s as one half of production team “The Unabombers” with Justin Crawford, Luke over the years has shown to be a master in all genres be it Balearic, to Brazilian to E soul, House, Disco and Techno, you name it! With his Worldwide FM show over the years gaining a cult following Luke has gained an even more of a broader crowd from his curation of his E Soul Cultura compilation series via the label Mr.Bongo (Both comps topping our EOY lists in 2022 and 2023). This exact vast taste (that is displayed in these compilations) is very much pummelled into this five hour journey of a mix like a piece of clay and sculpted into a fine piece of art. Mixes recorded using a basic set-up of only x2 Technic 1210's, a Allen & Heath X:One23c mixer, Roland Space Echo guitar pedal plus a single Numark CD deck...100% NO SOFTWARE!...Keeping it real...ha ha!

An avid record collector & clubber who fell into DJing by chance in 1984 at the age of 17 in a local club in South London playing an eclectic mix of Boogie, Motown, Electro & Jazz Funk. Soon after became the tour DJ for (the songwriter & producer Mark Topham and his Jazz Funk band at that time) 'The Juice' back in the mid 80's. 
Acid House changed everything by the Spring of '88, Sean being a regular/member at Nicky Holloway's 'The Trip' London...by '89 he was resident DJ at a bar/club called 'The Trading Post' in South London, which lasted a number of years. Playing everything from Balearic & Italian 'piano' to eventually Progressive House, to a great crowd.
Throughout the 90s, Sean was playing regular slots at 'Dolly Rockers' & 'Just Cant Get Enough' plus lots of one-off parties. Warming up for the likes of Dave Dorrell, Judge Jules, Brandon Block, Chris & James & Leftfield's Paul Daley amongst many.
Playing at the 'Gardening Club', 'Legends', 'Maximus' & many other top venues at the time.

Sean still plays out today at selected vinyl only parties, so get in touch regarding bookings.
