A new chapter begins for Moody Mcivor — the latest project from Chris Mcivor, founder of cult
underground label Nerang Recordings. Previously known for his club-leaning work under the DJ Whipr Snipr moniker, debut single ‘Ronnie Adelene’ sees Mcivor shed the dancefloor for something far more introspective and intimate. Blending gothic textures, mechanic post-punk melancholy, and darkwave atmospheres, ‘Ronnie Adelene’ signals a bold and vulnerable new direction. Inspired by artists like John Maus, Eli, Boy Harsher, Joy Division, and Black Marble, Mcivor channels raw emotion into a sound that feels both nostalgic and deeply personal.

"Originally, the project began in my bedroom – much like my label – and grew from a very personal, grassroots place,” Mcivor shares. And that spirit of creative independence runs throughout the track. While the initial writing and recording were done solo, Mcivor later brought in close friend and collaborator Felipe Bortoloti (Nørus), to help shape the final sound — contributing to arrangement tweaks, additional production, and handling the mixing and mastering.

However, Moody Mcivor represents more than just the music — it’s a testament to endurance and
creativity through hardship. “I’ve experienced some of life’s toughest challenges, yet I’m still here – as a father, a
record label owner, and a creative,” says Mcivor. “That resilience, and the drive to keep moving forward no matter what, shapes my music and my story.”

London-based duo @pistashio-wav arrive on @ducklandbristol with their label debut - a bubbling, club-ready new single, 'POLLEN'.

'POLLEN' is reminiscent of warm summer days, complimenting euphoric melodies with punchy basslines while building intensity as it transitions from day to night.

La Colina was inspired by warm memories of southern France and Italy, landscapes on a human scale, where everything feels gentle and close. It evokes the simple act of wandering, watching insects crawl along a sunlit earth wall by an old road leading to a small hill. The piece shifts focus from the large and dramatic to the quiet and small. It’s a response to a broader cultural tendency, in electronic music, experimental work, and visual art—where emotion often needs to be intense, dark, or disruptive to be felt. La Colina moves in the opposite direction. It challenges the listener to engage with tenderness and vulnerability, to reconnect with a childlike way of seeing: curious, sensitive, and open. 

Yoann Pisterman is a French sound artist and composer based in Berlin. Originally trained in visual arts, his practice began with drawn landscapes blending architecture and vegetation. Sound emerged in response and gradually became the core of his work. He describes it as “painting with sound.” His compositions move between ambient, kraut, electroacoustic, and experimental forms; balancing softness with density, surface with depth. A kind of childlike topography for deep listeners: light yet intricate, subtly shifting perception and sculpting space. His second full-length is set to appear on Hologram Opera in October 2025.

Like a rare strain of sonic mycelium, Mushroom Funk spreads across continents, genres, and minds with the hallucinatory richness of a magic mushroom trip.

Born from a chance connection through mentor Osunlade, the partnership between Flip and Inkswel grew from their debut Early in the AM into a full-blown collaboration, even before they ever met in person. Their bond was cemented in 2025, leading to this bold, boundary-pushing project.

Rooted in their shared love of hip hop, house, and soul, Mushroom Funk is a kaleidoscope of lush textures, raw lo-fi grooves, and infectious club energy. The album features an all-star lineup including Life on Planets, Reggie B, Willie P, Leonard Charles, Rdomain, and Erin Buku, each bringing their unique voice to the mix.

Visually guided by the psychedelic artwork of Michael Rafaj and released on Feedasoul Records, Mushroom Funk is music without borders: soulful, global, and impossible to pin down.

The Kollect series highlights Needwant's year in music, combined with some exclusives from producers we have tipped for a great 2019. Collectively bringing together some of the most sought after producers for remixes and combining them with Needwant's unique A&R, it's been a strong year for the London based label. 

Year on year Needwant is continuously pushing the boundaries of electronic and dance music and bringing artists to the forefront of the scene, from London to Vancouver, Los Angeles to Berlin and beyond.

2018 saw the likes of Luces (a collaboration project from acclaimed producers Amtrac and Plastic Plates), Berlin's underground cult hero Johannes Albert, multi-instrumentalist and production maestro Kemback and Vancouver's finest young export Iain Howie join the Needwant family. There was also room for the return of Kim Brown to the label with their EP 'Pleasuredome Continuum'. We also welcomed two of our favourite producers to lend their hand on remix duty in the form of Whitesquare and Soulphiction. 

The exclusives on the latest volume of Kollect come from the likes of Joe Morris (Clandestino) who delivers a hazy house groover, Needwant alumni Algorythm weighs in with the heavy hitting, club ready 'Medusa', whilst British-born Tel Aviv based COHN (Kitsune) features with 'Rhodes House'. Monologues owner and Turned On podcast host Ben Gomori's 'Colour Communication' is a piano laden funky house cut and rounding off is newcomer Upstart with the dreamy 'First Flowers of Spring'.
