In a dimly lit room, the flickering images on the screen wove a disconcerting tale. The dissonant soundtrack reverberated through the air, each note unlocking a cryptic doorway. Shadows danced on the walls, and as the final frame faded, an inexplicable sense of dread clung to the air.

The bəˈkəm EP is a simple description of any evolutionary process, whether physical or mental, split into three phases: breaking, processing, and improvement. The phases are connected and intertwined, mirroring how communication is seen to unfold in a similar manner. The tracks were made using FM synthesis and processing of ambient recordings with custom software developed by the artist, which turns written words into sound patterns.

Mostly everything was done in intervals between work—picking up and leaving off at inconvenient times—but I think this made me approach each track slightly differently each time I’d sit down to write. This is an album full of references, big and small, to the music I love and the sounds I love to hear."

There’s more on the horizon, as XENO IV is already in the works and set to release later this year. With a longer tracklist and a much shorter wait, the next installment will continue the series’ tradition of pushing boundaries and exploring new sounds.
