A special event called Mercury Soul will take place this Friday night at Metro in Chicago.

The event is the second of its kind in Chicago, and has also taken place in Berlin, Miami and San Francisco. It's presented by MusicNOW, a program at the world-renowned Chicago Symphony Orchestra led in part by composer-in-residence Mason Bates, AKA DJ Masonic. In order to "re-imagine the classical music experience for a broad audience in extraordinary spaces," the night will feature a mix of performances from local acoustic instrumentalists (including a grip of CSO members) and electronic acts. Local export Kate Simko will play a live audiovisual set. Searchl1te will play live too, accompanied by an electric violist. As with last year's Mercury Soul event in Chicago, DJ sets will come from Justin Reed (with live trumpet accompaniment) and Striz from the city's illmeasures crew. "
