Before I met my wife, I had become disillusioned about finding someone in the small town where I grew up. At the same time, my idealism survived at some level. I wrote this song to say that love is a decision -- If we just do this, commit to it, then at some point all of the mess of the past will fade away. It will cease to be real. All that will be real will be you and I, here together.
