It was so much fun playing this set for the wonderful folk at the first edition of the Celestial Festival :) Unlike a usual build-up to a set, since I was handed the room with great energy, I felt that momentum needed to continue for just a little longer before I took things down the trippy rabbit hole that I love to wander....a journey I hope you enjoy as much as I did ;)

This festival was curated to celebrate the Asian Diasporic community by amplifying our stories and voices by platforming up-and-coming talents from our community in this event. Their goal was to highlight the diverse Asian cultures through music, sound, taste, and visuals in the celebration of the Lunar New Year.
If this year has taught us anything, it is that the Asian Diasporic community is still misunderstood, misrepresented (by the mainstream media), exotified, and marginalized. In Germany specifically, there is a lack of awareness as to how diverse Asian identities and cultures are. The Lunar New Year festival is one step in providing a space for pop music and interdisciplinary art practices to bring the Asian diaspora together, raise awareness of diverse identities, and strengthen solidarity across communities (within and outside of the Asian Diasporic identity)."

They’ve fully grown: quicksilver rhythms that have to be seen (and felt) in the flesh, though this one’s a glimpse of that magic at home. A look back at Philippa Pacho’s profound performance in our Room 01 at the positivesource showcase, which she co-founded hand in hand with Blue Hour. The Stockholm-born artist delivered a knife-edged vision to techno during a two-hour memorable set at her imprint night in Fuse.
 
Like a gentle hold, Philippa's narration is as tactile as poignant. Dark without being obscure, musing yet energetic, no one can doubt the decade of musicality that has flowed through her veins ever since. Drawn to sharp kicks or a few clipped vocals here and there, Philippa Pacho's mix is an invitation, or even more an exploration, to a complex and appealing inner world. A stand-out.

"I’ve been really enjoying playing ‘Bloom’ from up and coming Berlin producer Symbolism on PTHM recently. It’s an immersive and rolling techno track with a dark and dub’y atmosphere. You hear a bit of the dub sound coming back at the moment which is nice, but this is the way I like it over the more chord driven dryer sounding stuff. It’s quite versatile, intriguing and very adaptable for DJ’ing with."

Born in Algeria, and raised between France and the Netherlands, with a later stint in London, Mary Lake has lived a life through the lens of different cultures, each adding a little more to her experience in the realm of electronic music. It wasn’t always her medium, but in DJing she’s found her most authentic voice, with her start at more intimate house parties, then on to the best and brightest of Dutch clubs and festivals. For her, creative discovery and expanding the limits of craft is key, covering both the range of utilitarian techno and more atypical sounds, the likes of which she was apt to share via her experimental pandemic-era radio show Worshipping Discordia. Alongside that, and a slew of catchy releases, she’s now a Spielraum resident and frequently billed on stages from Dekmantel to De School to Tresor, Bassiani and beyond. Her percussive techno spreads the kind of wildly infectious crowd energy that drew a younger her towards it many moons ago, now she's on the inside looking out. This next one’s a very special B2B set from two of techno’s freshest talents. German/Dutch pairing Phil Berg and Lobster have emerged from their respective habitats masters of their art. From raves in both their homelands to releases on SK-eleven, HAYES, Room Trax and positivesource, as well as a shared residency for Vault Sessions that’s brought them here for Bassiani Podcast 210, the duo posit a deep and driving compound of high-voltage rhythms in their day-to-day praxis. Slamming techno that has claimed a rightful space among the greatest names of their generation. Layer by layer, an instinctive formulation of heaving basslines and delicate hi-hats balanced with utmost precision. It’s a seamless communion of complementary worldviews in respect to sound, a rich tapestry of ever morphing loops. It’s focus on gradual build, a slowly evolving chimera in lieu of schmaltzy instant gratification. This latest edition clocks in at three hours, a redacted version of their 12 hour set for the Vault Sessions night at Bassiani back in early February. Lolsnake, also known as Danielle Lumma Rahal, is a Berlin-based Iraqi-American DJ and visual artist. As the founder of the Berlin queer party series Weeeirdos, which holds an ongoing residency at Säule Berlin, Lolsnake has carved out a unique space in the city's vibrant music scene.

In their special podcast for Pornceptual, Lolsnake dives into the multifaceted layers of dance music. For this special mix, they put together a mood that is a little bit darker and energetic yet sexy - "something that you can either pre-party with or watch pornography to".

The series is presented by Rakans: Beirut-born and Berlin-based, Rakans, founder of the Queer collective Rawmantique. He is also a Pornceptual resident. Rakans not only curates the podcast series but also conducts interviews with participating artists.
