EL PLVYBXY - Especial de Guarachas Santiagueñas

El Plvybxy @plvybxy (Gregorio Da Silva) is a pivotal figure in the current Argentinian club scene. The Buenos Aires-based, half Argentinian, half Brazilian producer started releasing a variety of genre-transgressing club music from promising local producers through his own @agvarecords in 2016, and in 2017 he initiated a club series named 'Agvaritual'. As a producer he has been straddling the line between global club sounds and sound design since 2014 with noteworthy releases including the 'Abya Yala' EP on Majía, and the upcoming 'Reflexis' on Nostro Hood System.

This mix almost exclusively contains Guarachas Santiagueñas - a particular music genre that originated from Santiago del Estero, a province in northern Argentina. The regional capital of the same name is home to many musicians producing and performing this music. It's the only city that fully embraced this subculture in Argentina. 

Contemporary Guaracha Santiagueña is not to be confused with Cuban Guaracha, though both music styles share the same name. Guaracha Santiagueña is essentially influenced by Chamame *, Chacarera **, and Afro-Colombian rythms (Colombian music was popular in the Northeast of Argentina in the 70s). It can also be interpreted as an alternate form of Cumbia Guarachera. It shares many similarities with Mexican Tribal (aka 3bal), and the classic Guaracha from other Latin American countries, albeit with its own flow, higher BPMs and a particular swing that is comparable to the upbeat ''Cuarteto'' from Córdoba (which in turn is similar to Dominican Merengue).

El Plvybxy's mix is a homage to "The Leader Sound"; the first crew/label from Santiago del Estero, renowned for editing, mixing and producing Guaracha remixes. It's a shout-out to the classic Argentinian singers of the genre; Jorge Veliz, Los Bonys and El Enganchado de la Guaracha.
