Following a debut EP on Golf Channel in 2015, Autarkic aka Nadav Spiegel has risen in status alongside his close friends and collaborators Red Axes and Moscoman. His recent debut LP for Disco Halal has garnered critical acclaim. Spiegel clearly has a rare talent as a songwriter, crafting the kind of intelligent, left-field pop music that one usually has to look back to the avant-garde of the 1980s to find.  If things were more downtempo, experimental and psych rock on his first EPs, these tracks for Turbo point squarely at the dance-floor, and have been staples in the sets of not only Moscoman and Red Axes, but in the other rising stars of the underground Israeli scene around labels like Malka Tuti and Fortuna records, as well as the global groove empire developing around Turbo A&R Thomas Von Party’s Multi Culti. Wild jams on the classic Linndrum, a driving bassline and a gated, almost out of control North African sounding leadsynth form the basic ingredients of this exceptional new record by Thee J Johanz. The Fire in The Disco version adds more spices, like moody FM pads and an infectious disco vibe, ready to put many floors on fire. The record is garnished by the ‘market version’ of Bafrique, which is more like a dub/ambient excursion with environmental samples taken on the Vagator market in India. Artwork by Afrobot.

The fifth piece of The Golden Ravedays puzzle will be released on Hippie Dance in May 2017. Number 5 of the series introduces two further tracks of the sound adventure that Superpitcher is taking us on this year.

The djembe drum on the cover and the two titles of the tracks hint that this edition could potentially include stuff that was inspired by the rhythms and melodies of Africa - a sound legacy that is of great importance to Superpitcher. Side A features Bluesin. Rumor has it that Superpitcher visited South Africa and adventurously traveled into the deep bush-bush where he met new friends with captivating voices who speak in enchanting tongues. Initially, Bluesin is bursting with aching, longing and the oldest story of sorrow but there is also comic relief and pride in this story; typical of the emotional signature of the sound of Africa and the Blues that it gave birth to later on.

Side B features Burkina. It all starts rather innocently with Burkina. One gets carried away by the funky, ethnic drumming thinking yummy yes, this is going to be a virtual trip to the Brazilian amazon, or maybe a corner of the Congo, Cameroon perhaps, and one is not even side-tracked by the arrival of birdsong and something that hypnotizes, like beautiful sirens because it is all too groovy for any dictionary, and then, oh boy, then their Mother Superior arrives and all hell breaks loose. Frogs, kudu horns, rattlesnakes, things that hiss and croak and the haunting voice of Her. As if that is not enough to make you believe you have been propelled to a new continent, wait until the ending of Burkina! It will transport you to another universe altogether!

The eighth piece of The Golden Ravedays puzzle will be released on Hippie Dance in August 2017. Number 8 of the series introduces two tracks that will take you to the far side of somewhere you’ve never been before. They are both reminiscent of outer space blues playing spooky games in a dust bowl.

Side A features Tuesday Paris Texas a tastefully arranged track with vintage sounds passing nonchalantly through a wild western aural landscape. The music is announced like a cowboy movie dual complete with bar doors swinging on rusty nails in slow motion. Mournful guitar strings swirl over a steady horseback galloping beat, expanding into a full-on-fire dance track. Halfway through a woman’s haunted voice appears and disappears like an eerie siren, a gunshot is fired (was that a gunshot?), a man whispers “what!?” Tuesday Paris Texas is in no hurry to give an answer.

Side B features Mirage a desert sound collage glued to a steady pulse that rolls and rolls, circumventing any destination. Mirage is a contour map of no surprising peaks just undulating valleys of wistful cathodic sound creeks, sometimes veering off to plains in full view of the moon, in earshot of solitary wolf cries. Like Tuesday Paris Texas, Mirage is testament of Superpitcher’s versatile prospecting beyond the elemental sound tools of the electronic music trade.

Volume  2  of  retakes  of  C  Cat  Trance’s  unique  post-punk  meets  world  beat  brings  the  collaboration  between  Malka  Tuti  and  Emotional  Rescue  to  a  close.Here  again,  the  label’s  call  in  a  selection  of  heads  to  re-envisage  a  modern  vision  of  the  music  to  present  a  perfect  representation  for  today.      Starting  with  Red  Axes  retake  of  an  almost  untouchable  classic,  the  booming,  sound  system-quaking  version  of  Shake  The  Mind  is  a  heads  down  mover  that  should  add  to  their  reputation  and  finally  give  DJ’s  a  follow  up  to  utilise.  Next,  Jamie  Paton  gives  the  perfect  trance-inducing,  dubbed  edit  of  Take  Me  To  The  Beach.      Looping  the  drums  and  horns  infinitum,  building  through  repetition  was  never  truer,  before  release.      His  individual  take  on  remixes  is  again  displayed,  deep  dubs  from  the  brethren.      To  close  the  2  EPs,  the  final  side  is  given  to  a  meeting  of  older  and  established  artist  and  new,  upcoming,  but  already  respecting  crew.      In  Prins  Thomas,  the  psychedelic  protagonist  of  the  heralded  northern  disco  lights,  his  name  was  first  to  be  penciled.      His  live,  drum-heavy  reversions  have  become  trademark  and  in  Sudaniyya,  it’s  all  there.      Subtle,  confident  and  alluring,  Thomas  builds  to  a  steady  jam  of  machine  and  man,  letting  it  all  hang  and  simply,  groove  along.        In  finale,  Khidja  bring  in  friend  and  fellow  Romanian  production  rising  star,  Borusaide  to  cover  Simple  Helen.      A  slow-burning  ode  in  original  form,  their  genius  reversion  captures  the  essence  and  much  more,  giving  C  Cat  Trance’s  music  a  whole  new  lease,  while  presenting  their  production  talent  and  musicianship.    As  was  the  hope  and  intention  of  these  updated  versions  -  Re-mixes  for  the  21st  Century  -  with  a  nod  to  the  past,  but  feet  firmly  in  the  future. Play  loud  and  play  out.

1. Mondowski is something like a regular on Relish. After his 2 EPs SURFIN HELL and Klub Psycho he delivers Hollywood Babylon. Psychedelic and Post-Punk inspired, Hollywood Babylon is a 7min mesmerizing journey between distorted guitars, airy voices and troubled synthesizers. He is a french DJ and producer residing in London since a few years.
